Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak says an Israeli demand that Palestinians accept Israel as a Jewish state ruins the chances for a peace deal.
The demand was one of the conditions set by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as he backed the creation of a Palestinian state for the first time.
He also asked that a Palestinian state be demilitarised. Palestinians have rejected the conditions.
How can there be a permanent peace deal without Arab states accepting Israel as a state?

Apparently not at this time. To recognize Israel is like choking on a bone for all of the Arab states. Peace is spelled in this part of the world as PIECE. Today this piece tomorrow the rest of the piece of Israel. That goes for our so-called peace partners. All they wanted was their land back. But nevertheless a cold peace is as good as a warm peace since no one gets killed on either side.
It will take a Sadat to accept Israel as a State let alone a Jewish State with a minority of other citizens that have full rights but not Jewish. A jewish State means coming to terms that the Jewish people are tied to this land and have been living here forever albeit in a minority capacity and under Muslim rule.
