Update October 15: It will be a great day. Today thousands and thousands of bloggers worldwide are writing about Poverty. Writing to create awareness and to point the political leaders of the world that poverty is a big issue, a big problem.
Let's look to another big problem that got attention by all media. Mass-attention as we have never seen before. The financial crisis. Governments all over the world looked for some billions to avoid a disaster, to avoid a total collapse of the financial system. Plenty of money available to help bankers who did a very bad job. The only way they looked was the way to make a lot of profit. Profit for the rich and less profit for the poor. That's their business.
What should happen when governments all over the world should decide to solve the problem of poverty, to avoid a disaster like the billions of baby's and children who have nothing to eat. What should happen when everybody in the world should have the same rights on food, medication, education, fair work and fair payment. That should be a nice world.
What to we need to get that world? More attention for the problem. And of course some money, some billions. Let's say the same number of billions of dollars, euro's, pounds and so on that helped to save the financial system. That is all.
Strange to see that we can invest so much money in banks, in a system and that we are not aible to end poverty worldwide.

We can be the generation that ends poverty.
In September 2000, at the United Nations Millennium Summit, world leaders agreed to the Millennium Development Goals, a set of time-bound and measurable goals for combating poverty, hunger, disease, illiteracy, environmental degradation and discrimination against women.
The deadline to achieve the Millennium Development Goals is September 2015 -- we must act now if we want to achieve these goals by their deadline.

Blog Action Day is an annual nonprofit event that aims to unite the world’s bloggers, podcasters and videocasters, to post about the same issue on the same day. Our aim is to raise awareness and trigger a global discussion.
Global issues like poverty are extremely complex. There is no simple, clear answer. By asking thousands of different people to give their viewpoints and opinions, Blog Action Day creates an extraordinary lens through which to view these issues. Each blogger brings their own perspective and ideas. Each blogger posts relating to their own blog topic. And each blogger engages their audience differently.
First and last, the purpose of Blog Action Day is to create a discussion. We ask bloggers to take a single day out of their schedule and focus it on an important issue.
By doing so on the same day, the blogging community effectively changes the conversation on the web and focuses audiences around the globe on that issue.
Out of this discussion naturally flow actions, advice, ideas, plans, and empowerment. In 2007 on the theme of the Environment, we saw bloggers running environmental experiments, detailing innovative ideas on creating sustainable practices and focusing audience’s attentions on organizations and companies promoting green agendas. In 2008 we aim to again focus the blogging community’s energies and passions, this time on the mammoth issue of global poverty.
From the smallest online journals, to huge online magazines, to EU ministers, to professionals and amateurs, Blog Action Day is about mass participation. Anyone is free to join in on Blog Action Day and there is no limit on the number of posts, the type of posts or the direction of thoughts and opinions.
If you have a blog, podcast or videocast, you can commit your blog or website to participate in Blog Action Day. From August 15th to October 15th bloggers are asked to register to participate so we can track how many blogs will be involved, as well as their approximate audience size. On October 15th participating blogs will put up a post, video or podcast about poverty. You may also wish to donate the day’s ad revenue to a poverty-related charity. We ask bloggers to try to keep their posting related to their regular blog topic so that posts are individual, suited to their audience and look at the issue in many different lights.
You can register your blog by completing our Registration Form - which just asks for a few basic details. Once registered you’ll be able to return to update your listing, and you’ll be given a one line code to add to the bottom of your Blog Action Day post on October 15th. This line of code will help us track what’s going on in the blogosphere that day.
The best thing a blog can do is to keep their post on topic. Audiences visit our blogs because they enjoy the style, personality and topic of the site. So it makes sense that the best way to get through to these audiences is to use the style, personality and topic to talk about Poverty. Look for angles that relate to poverty but stay on topic.
