This guy was pleasant enough and I suspect he really believed in his cause. If a job is a "right" however, who's "responsibility" is it to provide it? Answering "the government" is pretty lame since who is the government but you, me, and our neighbors?
The only other way I know to have the "right" to a job is if you can "force" your neighbor to buy specific goods and services at specific prices thus ensuring that you can have the job you think you deserve. They have tried this over time in other countries. I am still looking for an example where it really works out for the people. "Tyranny" comes to mind when I think of some of these regimes... :)
Most people I know who have been gainfully employed would not consider a job to be an entitlement - but rather an opportunity, something to be thankful for, and something that you need to work hard for, compete for, and part of providing some valuable product or service to others.
I can agree with my friend's sign of "fight to get one, fight to keep one", if that means competing in the marketplace. But in listening to some of the protesters, I am not sure that is what they meant...

People get what they deserve, there is no right on anything in this world. As long people don't make the effort to keep or get a job, nothing will change. Free lunches don't exist. Work hard in what ever job you can get even if its below yr standard and work yr way up, than you deserve where you've worked for, and obtain a better position!

I'm nor sure what is scarier - the jackbooted force arrayed behind the protester, or the thought that the protester may actually believe what his sign says.
