Is it Possible to Form United States of Africa at Present?

There is an intention of forming the United States of Africa (USA2) which had been discussed among leaders of African nations. Even I heard that President Muammar Al-Gaddafi is interested to be the minister of defence of USA2.

As an idea, it is very nice! But I think too premature. Even the Europeans who have almost equal level of economic development and infrastructures such as railways, communication, etc, that connect them did not proceed more than currency union. So, how can it be possible to form USA2 led by a leader/president?

In my opinion, African nations should first establish trade and economic interaction between themselves. This should start by few numbers of countries like between East African, North African, West African and South African countries. Between these segments of countries, infrastructures like communication, road, electricity, etc, need to be constructed and stretched. These will create interactions between people and bring about cultural and values homogeneity as a precondition for unification.

Secondly, the existing African Union (AU), should take the responsibility to prepare the ground works that enables the formation of one African government. One of the ground works can be educating the peoples of African countries and even their leaders. How can current leaders of Africa enable the formation of USA2 when they are propagating for big ethnic diversity within their own country?  So, not only peoples of Africa but also leaders of African countries should broaden their mind and scope of thinking for the formation of USA2 to be realistic and eventual. This can be achieved through intensive media education handled by the existing African Union.

My reply to this question is No.Europe is Europe, not Africa or Asia, this is not a generalised statement but given history and culture of Whites and non-Whites tells us so.Name an African or Asian country which was not a colony of some European country.Asian and Africans were in numerical majority but fell prey to European machinations. Our historians never tried to analyse the factors which were responsible for our enslavement to Europe.

The emphasis on individual's salvation,a core Eastern philosphy, which finds best expression in total selfishness and detaches an individual from collectivity and lack of collective consciousness, political and social, could have been one of the reason that we,Asian and Africans remained subjugated for centuries.

I qoute a passage from preface by Jean- Paul Sartre to Frantz Fanon's classic on colonialism:"Not so very long ago,the earth numbered two thousand million inhabitants:five hundred million me,and one thousand five hundred million natives. The former had the Word;the others had the use of it.Between the twomthere were hired kinglets, overlords and a bourgeoisie, sham from begining to end, which served as go-betweens."

After so-called independence of host of Asian and African countries the mantle of leadership fell on these sham-from-begining-to-end leadership.India was one country but unfortunately the kind of leadership in Sastre's words;".....They picked out promising adolescents;they branded them,as with a red-hot iron, with the principles of Western cultures...."India had,the country was partitioned.

In short, we are more prone to division than unification.

The idea that some parts of Africa are sufficiently mature, with common interests, might join to achieve economic synergy is brilliant.

YJ,ideas are brilliant, sound good and seem workable.Unfortunately,it is not we the people who decide.Majority of people want to live in peace,co-operate with and help each other, share joys and sorrows. Were it not so humanity would have crumbled. The politicians, selfish to the last drops of their blood,  want excatly opposite of that.Divisions in society suit them. The Britishers almost divided every country,or sowed seeds of division to blossom into partition or permanent conflicts.
