Andrea Pininfarina, head of Pininfarina SpA, was killed today in a traffic accident on the way to a design meeting. Pininfarina is a family-run design firm that brough the world various forms of Fiat, Ferrari, and Alfa Romeo.
Though details weren't immediately available it is given to understand that Andrea may have died instantly after his Vespa scooter collided with a Ford Fiesta in Trofarello near the northern Italian city of Turin.
Pininfarina, who was 51, was chairman and chief executive officer of the company his family founded in 1930. Andrea Pininfarina was the grandson of the founder, Battista "Pinin" Farina. Pininfarina SpA has designed Ferraris and Alfa Romeo cars for Fiat and the Focus line for Ford.
