The recession in the USA is much deeper and more widespread than any in history. It will absorb any money that is thrown into it, namely the cash reserves of China. What will happen next when all of the cash is absorbed and the recession is deeper than ever? Well, this is the opportunity that the Earth has been waiting for, a chance to take a deep breath and begin a new chapter in our history as a planet and a people, and bring a timely end to the Industrial Revolution as characterized by iron and coal.

Let’s face it, America as we know it cannot last

Let’s face it, America as we know it cannot last, nor in a historical sense was it ever meant to. It is merely a stage in our human development, a stage that we will soon pass, in one way or another. There will be radical changes in all aspects of society. There will be conflict. And in the end, the world be better off because of it.

What should we do?

Stop resisting the inevitable change and start changing ourselves to meet the needs of a changing world: learn, conserve, save and get involved in your community.

How will “the end” come about?

First will be the long awaited dismantling of the massive US military machine. Second will be the failure of corporations and banks that are “too big to fail.” This will greatly contribute to the growing unemployment rate. The tricky part is how people in the US will deal with unemployment. The government will not have the money to deal with them, so they will have to the unthinkable, fend for themselves. This means that they will have to live within their means for a change, they will have to work “odd-jobs” and move out of the suburbs and close to where they can access public transportation and jobs, as they can no longer afford a car. The might even dare to ride a bicycle to work (Oh the horror!).

People will not be paying taxes, what little they make will go unreported. Only losses will be reported, of which there will be many, so the government will owe them money instead of the other way around. Most of all, the “productivity” of the US worker will decrease drastically. They will produce less waste, they will produce less greenhouse gas emissions, and they will produce less of a strain on the environment.

People will have to return to more traditional sources of income, namely agriculture. There will be new opportunities in “green” companies and these will be the best opportunities for growth. Government, which had been a growth industry for so long will shrink rapidly.

With so many unemployed or “underemployed”, people will have to work together for a change, not just work in the same office, but truly come to rely on each other. Relationships will be stronger, friendships will be invaluable, and the best in humanity will come out in those that choose to move forward. For those that choose to live in the past, the world will exact a heavy toll, judging harshly the excesses of that past…

What should we do about it?

Stop resisting the inevitable change and start changing ourselves to meet the needs of a changing world: learn, conserve, save and get involved in your community.

Impressive and well reflected Tireed.

I agree "America as we know it cannot last..." I do hope though that China will be smart enough to cut the US off. Why I am against the bail out. We have to face reality and reform our World. Nice Post. Some interesting Ideas and reflections as well as observations here.

Hi All,

i am afriad you have mssed the most important point of why this whole thing has happened

GREED

Greed is good to the capitalist world and many are viewing this as the opportunity to make their millions.

Even the green companies have to answer to shareholders

Sorry to burst the bubble - but we all can dream

We really do have to change, it's true - as a human race we can adapt I think, but it makes me nervous to think about such a massive amount of change.

Well, as usual I don't think like everyone else and have some pretty wild concepts.

Most of the worlds economy is a falacy at this point anyway. With trillions and billions being owed here and there and all of the interest accumilating and credit we might as well be using monopoly money.

Just start the worlds economoes over please. Just like monopoly, everyone gets some to start with including the 1000's who are dying each day.

-oh I thought they were using monopoly money already? printing billions out of thin air?! bailouts after bailouts... wait for more civil unrest and riots in the streets, looting, hyperinflation of goods, food and water shortages... blah blah blah.

Probably best to start by going back to living off the land, being good with your hands and making sure you have a clue about being a little more self sufficient.
