It's Official: The "Timothy J. Russert Highway"

Introduced into legislation on Capitol Hill by New York State Senators Hillary Clinton and Chuck Schumer, a portion of  New York State's Route 20A will be renamed the "Timothy J. Russert Highway" in honor of the late Tim Russert, NBC's Washington Bureau Chief and host of "Meet the Press", who died suddenly of a heart attack on June 13, 2008. President Bush signed the law on Wednesday in honor of Russert.

The portion of Route 20A that will bear his name is located in Orchard Park, New York, just outside of Buffalo, Russert's hometown. The road is near Ralph Wilson Stadium, home of the NFL's Buffalo Bills, Russert's favorite football team. Russert would sometimes end his show by shouting, "Go Bills!"

The legislation to re-name the road was introduced on Capitol Hill by New York Senators Hillary Clinton and Chuck Schumer.

"Throughout his years in Washington he remained true to his roots, and more often than not on Sunday mornings during the football season he proclaimed his love for the Bills to a national audience as he signed off of 'Meet the Press'," said Clinton in a statement after the bill passed the House and Senate earlier this month. "When people drive through what will be the Timothy J. Russert Highway, I hope they are reminded of the man who always cheered on his hometown team."

Hi Paschen! Thank you for the Flag! I don't live far from Orchard Park, New York, and I hope to obtain some photographs. However, there are no details yet as to when this section of Route 20A will officially sport Tim's name! Thanks again!

Paschen

I have some Friend in that area as well. Maybe I should ask them to send me a new map of New York now! Goodness they will have to change every thing now, that should cost a small fortune!

I don't think a new map will be available any time soon! If the street sign has not already been made, I learned it could take 2-3 months to have one made! I can tell you though it is the section of Route 20A that runs between Abbott Road and California -- you can pencil it in for now!:)
