The Global Current (# 3) Lonely Birthday Party for Mugabe
Robert Mugabe is confident that he will win Zimbabwe's March 29 election. So am I, since he owns the election process. Only a man who can elect himself could continue to hold power, as Zimbabwe's inflation rate hists 100,000% (not a typo) and its people starve amidst a collapsed economy.
Over 1200 Zimbabwean protesters based in South Africa swamped the Beitbridge border post Saturday to demonstrate against Robert Mugabe’s birthday celebrations on the other side of the border. Owing to massive food shortages in the country Mugabe is said to have chosen Beitbridge as the ideal location in order to facilitate the easy purchase and transport of food from neighbouring Musina in South Africa. Various exile groups however came together and organized a protest to counter this birthday bash.
Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe says he is confident his ruling Zanu-PF party will win next month's elections.

He was speaking at a rally to launch his campaign for a sixth term in power and celebrate his 84th birthday.

Mugabe's biggest rival is Morgan Tsvangirai, who derides Mugabe as a dictator.

Africa's breadbasket has become Africa's basketcase under this disgrace.

It's like how Anakin Skywalker became Darth Vader: Mugabe began his political career as a national hero in the struggle to free Zimbabwe from colonial rule, and now shoulders the real blame for the quagmire into which his nation has been dragged... not that he accepts this blame, though.

(Southern Africa is perhaps the most beautiful part of the world that I've ever seen- it's heartbreaking to see this happening)
