Ambience:  It was a night of melodious high-power rock, with a lot of Sophistication and Style…..Energetic, Magical, and Reminiscent. Head banging and moss pitting made it a true blue rock night for Pink Floyd lovers

Þ     Jack Daniel’s, the iconic all American whiskey brand, continues to take Indian rock to the International stage. Saturday night witnessed the build-up to the 4th Jack Daniel’s Annual Rock Awards for 2008-09 with a tribute to the legendary Pink Floydfeaturing Kolkata’s 15 rock musicians on stage.

 

Þ     The pulsating evening saw Amrit Kiran Singh, the Area Director & VP, Brown-Forman, play the gracious host along withRadhakrishnan Nair, Editor and Head of Rolling Stone in India and Luke Kenny. The bands paying tribute to Pink Floyd along with Luke Kenny comprised of Pink Noise: Amyt Datta – Guitar; Jayashree Singh – Talk; Gyan Singh – Bass; Jivraj Singh – Beats; Also Featuring: Neel – Vocals [SPAN and frontman of Five Little Indians (FLI)]; The Hobos: Souvik – Vocals; Arko – Guitar; Suman – Keys; Dev – Bass; Tabz – Drums; Also Featuring: Rahul Guha Roy – Guitar/Vocals [Cassini’s Division]; Bodhi – Guitar [Crystal Grass/Insomnia]; Rohan – Guitar [Supersonics]; Kritika – Vocals [Cyanide Angels] and JD – Saxophone. The packed house was seen enjoying the music till the wee hours of the morning.

 

Þ     The concert featured some of the Kolkata’s finest musicians as they celebrated the 30th anniversary of the release of Pink Floyd’s classic album The Wall. Singer, DJ and actor Luke Kenny, hosted the event and also performed a few tracks. Kolkata’s rock and rollers were seen enjoying the music, losing total control and indulging in severe head banging. The menu for the evening: JD, Music and Fun.

 

Þ     Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Amrit Kiran Singh, Area Director & VP, Brown-Forman Worldwide stated, “It was Jack Daniel’s efforts 4 years ago, that began the process of bringing rock music, mainstream. Till this point rock music in India was confined to the university campus. The Jack Daniel’s Rock Awards which has seen the winning bands (Them Cones and Menwhopause) being sponsored to perform in England and the US has moved to another level this year. With credible partners such as Rolling Stones and VH1 joining hands with us to create synergy, the Jack Daniel’s Rock Awards is all set to becoming a major event in the Indian music scene.”
