UNITED STATES DISTRICT COURT- SHE'S IN the clink but her thoughts on prisons penned before her arrest may be her omen.
Vicky Pelaez, 55 a columnist for New York's most widely read Hispanic newspaper El Diario/La Prensa was arrested yesterday along with her husband on conspiracy to act as a foreign agent without being registered under the FARA law and money laundering charges.
Pelaez, was arrested with her husband Juan Lazaro, 66 outside their Yonkers, NY home on Sunday after returning from a party with their 38 year old son, according to El Diario/La Prensa.
In March 2008, Pelaez wrote a column for El Diario/La Prensa noting her views on the prison system which she calls a new form of slavery.
In her column she links prisons and big business saying "for the tycoons who have invested in the prison industry, it has been like finding a pot of gold."
Pelaez to many Hispanics was a voice of reason to the issues not addressed in English language papers. Pelaez was reportedly a supporter of Fidel Castro's regime and often wrote stories that were not in support of U.S. foreign policy.
Her eldest son, Wldomar Mariscal , called the accusations a " conspiracy and political persecution, and an attempt to silence her column, since she has been a constant critic of the US government", according El Diario.
If convicted Pelaez could spend 5-20 years in prison.
Russia called the allegations "baseless".

we all know that those who attack american society would never conspire to further that attack. and we are all aware of how castro dealt with both prisons and prisoners. not like that evil obama and his quantanamo. once more an innocent person joins all the other innocent in prison.

"A political event is reduced to a criminal event in order to affirm the absolute invulnerability of the existing order",Angela Y.Davis
Angela Davis is a former political prisoner, professor at the University of California and founder of the Critical Resistance( a group which advocates abolishment of prisons- I too favour abolishment of prisons,I want the criminals to get elected to the Congress or White House, because law makers are committing more crimes than hard core criminals.Anyway that is my personal opinion, excuse me if you don't agree)argues that Social problems are veiled by being conveniently grouped together under the category crime.
The journalist who was expressing her opinions in spanish has had to be categorized by the administration as a dangerous specie because what she was exposing is not much known to the American public. What is called 'Correction Industry",an additional component of Military-Industrial-Oil-Drug mafia,is mushrooming to benefit whom? The number of prison inmates working in correctional industries is going up,the prison-industrial complex hires more people to work not at mandated minimum wages but on few cents per hour.
It shouldn't surprise those who know how the US system works. My sympathies with this couple and all those who are languishing in prisons on trumped up charges.

First Obama throws innocent Russians in prison, and now Obama is throwing innocent Hispanics in prison. Is there no end to Obama's reign of terror and ethnic cleansing.

To accuse Obama of unleashing reign of terror and ethnic cleansing is travesty of truth.I am not an admirer of Obama, but know well that to what extents he can go wrong.

Sure you do! You know Obama intimately. LOL.
I don't care from any ideological principle. I just dislike to see how people can condemn one person for everything and give the another a pass for the same kind of behavior. If Obama is behaving no different than Bush. I believe it is worth noting. Think of me as holding up a mirror for the Obama can do no wrong idol worshipers. Remember Obama stands for 'change we can believe in'. Let's keep his ideological feet to the fire until we actually see some of that change.

Trans-Parere please go through my other posts I never gave good marks to Obama.I have always maintained that position that both the parties in US are two sides of the same coin.(my views on Indian political parties are same, and that's why I shun casting vote on election day).Even when commenting on 'Conservatives' lies' I wrote that record of Democrats is not much better in this respect, and to drive my point home I cited example of Clinton's perjury under oath.
Obama can not be accused of ethnic cleansing, unleashing reign of terror. If you have any proof, come out with it.No one would hesitate to accept the truth.

Sure, you are objective! You call Obama Obama and Clinton Clinton but, you call Bush satan and lucifer and Republicans pathological liars. That is not two sides of the same coin. You are close though. It's called two-faced. kidwai speak with forked tongue
quote from the article, "Pelaez to many Hispanics was a voice of reason to the issues not addressed in English language papers. Pelaez was reportedly a supporter of Fidel Castro's regime and often wrote stories that were not in support of U.S. foreign policy.
Yet as a supporter of Castro she was o.k. with the imprisonment and torture of thousands of fellow Cubans and driving hundreds of thousands into exile to the U.S. where she herself eventually flees to. Hmmm??? Starting to be a pattern here with who you defend with your moral relativism.

Trans-Parere.To begin with, tell me whose are these words"First Obama throws innocent Russians in prison, and now Obama is throwing innocent Hispanics in prison. Is there no end to Obama's reign of terror and ethnic cleansing"?
Every coin has two sides,HEAD and TAIL.Both are never same, but value or exchange rate of the coin remains same.Conservatives are head,Democrats tail.If head is Lucifer, pathalogical and compulsive liar, tail is simple liar and a little bit devilish.
With due apologies I confess that in my humble opinion you oscillate in your views and opinions which speak of an infirm mind.

More justification kidwai in lieu of honesty on your part. You grasp at any excuse to defend your leftist anti-establishment bent. My words are are your own words thrown back at you. Like I said replace Obama with Bush and you would be in full agreement. After all, Bush blew up the twin towers, Right?
You write, " Angela Davis is a former political prisoner, professor at the University of California and founder of the Critical Resistance( a group which advocates abolishment of prisons"
First. Angela Davis was not a political prisoner. She was tried and acquitted of suspected involvement in the 'Soledad Brothers' escape attempt involving the abduction and murder of Judge Harold Haley in Marin County, California. Angela Davis purchased, [owned the guns] and gave the guns for there use in that escape attempt.
The system she decries gave her a free pass on that substantial involvement in the serious crime of planning a prison break, hostage taking, and the subsequent murder of Judge Haley.
After her release Angel Davis moved to Cuba. The Cubans, even as devout communist/socialist were unwilling to for go the prison system and had a cell waiting for good old Angela if she started any of that nonsense in Cuba. So Angela moved back to the U.S. where she could earn a living attacking the prison system in comfort and safety.
Second, she is a retired professor from the history of conscience department UC Santa Cruz. I don't know how one becomes a 'professor' of a subject made up and taught only at UC Santa Cruz. However saying Angela is a "professor" I guess gives superficial credence to your hysterical utterance, "I too favour abolishment of prisons,I want the criminals to get elected to the Congress or White House, because law makers are committing more crimes than hard core criminals."
And this is the thinking of an individual who places himself as arbitrator of what is just and honest. Give me a freak'n break.

By going all your posts my conviction that conservatives are pathalogical and compulsive liars has gained strenght.
She faced trumped up charges, you know well. And how frequently you change your opinions is surprising. You put your words in others mouth.Substantiate by argument ,don't deliver judgement. You know the crimes the law makers, presidents and vice presidents have committed. You are less of a human being and more of an ostrich whose head is always in the sand.If want me I can quote from American authors..Do you think telling lies by a president or a prime minister to keep his people misinformed is an ordinary crime. In my opinion such persons should be hanged by nearest lamp post.

Actually, I consider myself to be a "centrist" and don't adhere to left - right politics. Which is why I don't buy into your leftist pronouncements as facts and truths.
"She faced trumped up charges"
There was nothing trumped up about her owning those guns and giving them to the group organized to free the 'Soledad Brothers' from prison. Your suggestion is ridiculous.
I believe all crime is deserving of the penalty prescribed in law and that every individual accused has a right to be defended in law, and the people ought to support such law or work with in the law until such laws or penalties prescribed are changed in law.
Not liking the law is not justification for breaking the law.
Law is not simply protection and punishment. It is a social code of order and conduct refined down through the ages of man since the first a$$hole decided he deserved another persons property and stole it.
"You know the crimes the law makers, presidents and vice presidents have committed."
Specifically who and what crimes? I don't deal with abstraction based on gross exaggerations. The only crimes I'm aware of are the one where there was a conviction. Or don't the unnamed lawmakers and politicians get the same consideration you give Angela Davis. Isn't your accusation that Bush orchestrated 9/11 a trumped up charge?
