Jails Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa To Be Computerized
PESHAWAR, October 27, 2011: A meeting, chaired by Home Secretary, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Muhammad Azam Khan held at his office, has reviewed and ADP’s schemes for Prisons Management Information System in Central Jail, Peshawar.
According to a handout issued here on Thursday, officers from Science, Technology, Information Technology, Deputy Director Information Technology and other computer system experts attended the meeting. The meeting discussed the immediate computerization of Jails Department.
Computerization of Jails Department would result into streamlining entry and release procedure of prisoners. Database of prisoners, the punishment they receive, the remission they are granted, their dates of court appearance and final release procedure would also be improved with the computerization of Jails Department.
It has also been decided in the meeting that jail hospital record would also be computerized besides service record, tenure, posting/transfers and disciplinary actions record of Wardens and assistant/deputy superintendents as well as other jail staff.
It has also been decided in the meeting all jails would be linked through net besides putting online inventory of products of jails factories for sale. Installation of close circuit cameras in jails and other electronic security equipments to ensure full-proof security of jails have also been discussed in the meeting.
It has been decided that PC-1 meant for Peshawar Jail would be revised realistically to ensure that tow central prisons viz <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 />Peshawar and Haripur are computerized in the first phase with the same cost.
Muhammad Azam Khan has taken keen interest in the improvement of jail condition and urged the officials to discharge their duty with full dedication and zeal. According to him, dereliction of duty by the officials would not be tolerated.
He said that he would hold regular meetings with the officials so in this way the public servants would improve their performance. According to him, computerization of jail record would be the first step for the betterment of jail condition. “Computerization of Jail Department is necessary in the present age of computer and this is the reason that the government has decided to computerize the record”, he said while chairing the meeting at his office.

Thats a very good step but i wonder where was the KPK government for four years?? Now such plans are just initiated for just point scoring as elections are soon taking place......
