James Gumm killed his two young children in Oregon murder/suicide

James Gumm has been identified as the man who killed his two young children before killing himself on Friday afternoon in a murder / suicide in Hillsboro, Oregon.

Tyler Gumm, 7, and his sister Kylie Gumm, 6, were killed when their father shot them with a 9 mm handgun. It was discovered that he suffered from emotional problems.

A hiker found the bodies at about 11pm last night near the Otter Marsh Loop in the Otter Marsh viewing area and called the police. James had his wallet on him and the gun was near his body.

Michael Rouches, a police spokesman says:

"The hard ones are the ones involving children. It is an awful, terrible scene,"

The trails will be closed throughout the weekend as the police investigate.

The bodies were only about a mile from where the closest parking area is, and a nearby homeowner, Stan Hayes, said that he heard two or three shots around 11 am and he walked around but didn't see anything.

Jarrod Watson of Beaverton, who was helping Hayes move scrap metal, also heard the shots. "It was boom, boom, boom, all three," he said.

No one from Clean Water Services, the neighboring building, reported hearing gunshots or seeing anything suspicious.
