Jameshia Conner: Missing 12 Year Old Found Dead in Chicago
Jameshia Conner, the missing 12-year-old girl from Chicago has been found dead and her autopsy revealed that she had been strangled to death. Police are now treating her case as a homicide.
Jameshia Conner was last seen alive on November 15th at about 8pm, when she got on a bus on 63rd street and Racine Avenue.
“I was just praying that it was not her,” said her mother, Birdie Lewis after getting a call from police about the discovery of a girl’s body Monday afternoon.
Ms. Lewis said that after she saw the collection of keyrings that had been found with the body, she knew right away that it was her daughter that had been found.
Jameshia Conner was a recent member of the cheerleading squad at her Elementary school, she loved to jump rope and she was a member of the church choir.
Her body was discovered just before 7am in the 6400 block of South Marshfield Avenue, in an alley by a man and his young daughter walking in the area. Jameshia was not wearing any shoes or socks.
Police have no one in custody, but Jameshia's family said they felt there could have been more media attantion to find her.
Community activist Andrew Holmes said:
There just isn’t enough attention out here with all these (missing) kids,” he said. “All kids are not considered runaways. I believe that if this baby’s picture had been on TV and in the open, someone would have called in.’
“Maybe this baby would be living today.”

To the family, I cannot imagine your grief, and my thoughts and prayers are with you. I have always been drawn to cases of persons missing and exploited and I follow all news of cases closely, hoping for resolution/justice. The fact that I have only now, on January 15th, 2010, heard this story is a testament to the poor attention that the media and authorities gave this precious child. I absolutely think that if she were caucasian and/or living in the suburbs, we would have seen her face on Good Morning America within hours, if not days. I am angry. I do know the criteria for an Amber alert is that the abduction has to be witnessed--or at least they have verified evidence that one has occurred, but that doesn't prevent them from alerting the media--AND IT DOESN"T PREVENT THE MEDIA FROM PLASTERING THEIR BROADCASTS WITH THE CHILD'S PICTURE AND INFO SO THAT THEY CAN BE FOUND!!!! Why do the police consider that a 12 yr. old is less in danger if they are a runaway???!!! They are not at an age that is legally considered competent! Do they think 12 year old girls are safer on the streets than 90 year old Alzheimer patients who wander away from nursing homes?? Saddened and Outraged
