Around 4 pm this Thursday 51 year old Larry Quintyne and 34 year old Melody Lester were involved in an argument that became violent. A handgun was involved and Lester was shot in the neck. Quintyne attempted to drive Lester to the hospital but emergency personnel on the phone with Quintyne, advised him to pull over and await an ambulance. An ambulance along with Bibb County Deputies met the couple in the parking lot of the Dairy Queen on Log Cabin Drive near Eisenhower. Lester was taken to the Medical Center and is in Stable Condition, Quintyne was arrested on the scene.
This first shooting of the year was a result of domestic violence, a common problem in Bibb County.

"Well its a combination, of domestic violence and all kinds of violence that's touching this community an I'm deeply troubled. I'm concerned about the perception that we're getting as a city as a whole, that's what I'm concerned about. Because you know crime, education, economic development all of it ties together." -Leon Jones/Bibb Co. Coroner

Coroner Jones says that one of the reasons crime persists is that some are simply afraid to report it.

"Yeah I think that's some of the problem because I talked with some of the people in the community. They want to get involved, but they don't want to get involved. and I tell them, all you got to do is call Crimestoppers. Give 'em the information, you don't have to give them your name." -Leon Jones/Bibb Co. Coroner

As for the suspect in the first shooting of the year, Larry Quintyne is being charged with Aggravated Assault under the Family Violence Act, the case remains under investigation.
