Japan, as an Asian country like Sri Lanka, with an equally rich culture and tradition has been working closely with Sri Lanka and maintaining an effective communication link, which avoids any misunderstanding.

Ambassador Akashi expressed his admiration for the tremendous progress that he witnessed at the welfare village housing the IDPs in the North yesterday, since his last visit to Sri Lanka. He was pleased the 180 program to resettle the displaced and noted that Japan would be a role player in assisting the de-mining process of the North to ensure civilian safety.'That will boost the return of civilians to their former places of residence', said Akashi.

Truth must be come out one day.

On the otherhand, in this occasion, international support is badly needed to rebuild the nation.

who destroyed tamil nation? its SL GOV.now they wanna rebuild. kind of a joke ?

**

Brother dont get misunderstood. We never kill tamils//

Sorry my dear brother. I'm not telling you. I'm telling SLGOV.

Remember - the day of tamils will come soon and we will pay back for all the lives we lost in this war.

"who destroyed tamil nation?"

Where is this so-called "Tamil" nation? The one that exists in cyber space? You honestly think that 13% of a country's population (out of which half lives in Colombo) actually has a chance of legitimately taking 1/3 (33.33%) of land mass and 2/3 (66.66%) of coast to make a new country for that 13% (minus half of that) ?

Your politicians first wanted 50-50 out of the country. Then it became 1/3 and 2/3 - Never fair. Greediness beats all, doesn't it?

I think it's time for you to get out of this mental state of "eelam".

freedom_writer

the so called tamil nation existed before british combined it with sinhala nation. cyber space cannot form a nation. no tamils are taking land mass of sinhala areas.  if you say half the tamils out of 13% are in colimbo then why are they not in sri lankan army ? where are their rights ? can a tamil atleast contest for the president election .. ofcourse winning the election is not possible. when there is no equal rights given there is definitely a need for tamil's nation. if everyone are treated as same then you can talk about this ..till then keep quite

3
Hiranya Malwatta

"the so called tamil nation existed before british combined it with sinhala nation."

Really? Are there any stone inscriptions to prove the existence of this "tamil" kingdom? Who were the last kings of this "tamil" kingdom? Any inscriptions in Tamil?

"cyber space cannot form a nation. "

Agree.

"no tamils are taking land mass of sinhala areas."

Define 'sinhala areas' - what is Wellawatta? And Kotahena? Wattala? What areas are those?

"if you say half the tamils out of 13% are in colimbo then why are they not in sri lankan army ?"

Ideally you should ask that from the dead serial killer Velupillai.

"where are their rights ?"

tch tch... come to wellawatta, wattala, kotahena i'll show you.

"can a tamil atleast contest for the president election .."

Can.

"ofcourse winning the election is not possible."

You think so? Maybe not as long as people carry the label of a Race on their backs. Because then only that Race will vote for him/her. Ever heard of Jeyaraj Fernandopulle? He sure was the next promising Presidential candidate and would have won too. Not to mention Kadirgamar who was to be our Prime Minister. Unfortunately the "tamil" serial killer Velupillai killed both those great Tamil gentlemen.

"when there is no equal rights given there is definitely a need for tamil's nation."

Try Tamil Nadu.

"if everyone are treated as same then you can talk about this ..till then keep quite"

Oh, I have to keep quiet? Cyber freedom only for you? tch tch.... that's too bad, freedom_writer (not verified) !

Tamils
How many Tamils are employed in southern Sri Lankan companies? See the number of high ranking Tamils in the Sri Lankan banking sector. Observe the number of Tamils in all industries.
Do they experience any hardship professionally due to ethnicity? If they do, how come they hold such high positions?
See how many Tamil children are educated in International schools in Colombo and the suburbs? They have outnumbered other ethnic groups.
Royal College Colombo has a Tamil medium and so does DS Senanayake College Colombo (both leading government schools). Additionally, many Sinhala major government schools have a Tamil medium and they share equal opportunities. How many Tamil major schools have a Sinhala medium?
Leading Private schools like St. Thomas’, Trinity, St. Joseph’s, St. Peter’s etc., have a large number of Tamil students and Tamil streams.
Travel to Wellawatte, Dematagoda, Dehiwala, Kotahena etc., (Colombo and suburbs) and see the number of Tamils sharing the same comforts.
Go to Pettah market and Fort (heart of Colombo). Walk along the streets and see how many Tamils do business there.
Start from Kotahena and travel passing Dehiwala (from north to south of Colombo). Sinhala traders are outnumbered by Tamil traders. I don’t see any hardship put on them.
Get into a bus in Southern Sri Lanka, listen and discover how many speak in Tamil.
Read the sign boards on shops in Wellawatte (Colombo 4). The majority are in Tamil and English.
Go to a government campuses, let’s say Colombo campus. See the number of Tamil students studying there. See the number of Tamil lecturers. They share equal opportunities. I never saw them being humiliated except they themselves had divisions saying Batticaloa Tamil, Jaffna Tamil and Upcountry Tamil. They have separate Tamil Unions, cultural events and religious events.

How many kovils are there in Colombo?
See the number of Sinhalese visiting kovils and Tamil shops. Does it not display tolerance, peace and harmony?
How many Tamil representatives are in the parliament?
See the number of Tamil youth in the entertainment industry in Colombo.
Do consider these statistics. If you look at the numbers and percentages, it would exemplify the truth. This is what I call rational behavior, peace and harmony.

 Sinhalese
How many Sinhalese are in Northern and Eastern part of Sri Lanka?   (North - none, East - 25%)
How many Sinhala medium schools are there in Northern Sri Lanka?  (None)
How many Sinhala employees are in Northern Sri Lankan offices and industries?  (None)
How many temples are there in Northern and Eastern Sri Lanka?  (One at Nagadeepa, the little islet)
Can a Sinhalese travel unharmed in Northern Sri Lanka? (Perhaps now, after the defeat of the LTTE)
How many Sinhalese are in Northern and Eastern universities?  (None)
Why? Because the LTTE either destroyed, killed or drove them out.
Now, answer me. When and where did this ethnic cleansing occur? Also, where does ethnic cleansing prevail, in the South of Sri Lanka or the North?

"Really? Are there any stone inscriptions to prove the existence of this "tamil" kingdom? Who were the last kings of this "tamil" kingdom? Any inscriptions in Tamil?"

There are Inscription, there are also Books. Most of the ancient inscrption and books are burnt in in the Jaffna Library, where the sri lankan military and the police set fire to the cultural Evidence of the tamils in Sri Lanka. You can see the facts in one of the famous books like Kailaya Malai, Vaiyai Padal ,Pararajasekaran Ula or yalpana vaipava malai. The last tamil King who was defeated by the portuguese, was Cankili II in 1619.

If you have further doubts, you can see also details of tamil in www.tamilancestors.com

Whether will you agree if we ask around 30%?

how crazy you are ? We ask our lands.  where the population matter comes?

You are muddling up the words, Tamils and Terrorists.

Terrorists will be killed - any time, any place, any dress.

Tamils are our brothers and sisters.

"Remember - the day of tamils will come soon and we will pay back for all the lives we lost in this war."

Be Anti-Terrorist ----The only way to Die! Huh?

Show some respect for Tamils, Tamil. Tamil begins with a capital T.

"I Will Wait For You
The clock will tick away the hours one by one
And then the time will come when all the waiting's done
the time when you return and find me here and run........
"Straight to VP's waiting arms"

This is fascinating.

“START KILLING MORE TAMILS.”  - Is this a call for the residue of LTTE to proceed on yet another killing spree of the people of the North, as they did before?

"who destroyed tamil nation?" – Which nation? Where? in which map? I have never heard of such bunkum.

The guy refers to itself as Tamil. Probably some imaginary place of his dreams and hallucinations.

Better look for psychiatric help.

"we will pay back for all the lives we lost in this war..."

What a wonderful promise! I think it has finally hit home that all the funding and blind support to the pipe dream of a psychopath has only induced misery to everyone. Yes, compensate for all the lives lost in the war.

Make love, not war!!  mmuahhhh!!!

Below find the text of the official statement Japan made.

"

  1. Japan welcomes the end to the military conflict between government troops and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), an armed anti-government group, in the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka. Japan expresses its sympathy for the many precious lives lost over twenty-five years of civil war.

  2. Japan hopes that the Government of Sri Lanka will follow the proper legal procedures in its dealings with LTTE personnel who laid down their arms and surrendered. Assistance to and resettlement of a large number of internally-displaced persons are great importance and political processes for national reconciliation needs to make swift progress. Japan hopes that the Government of Sri Lanka will continue its efforts to address these challenges.

  3. Japan will also continue to support the Sri Lankan government in its efforts towards national reconciliation with in UN guide lines.
  4. "
There is a big nuance here and Japan does not give full nor blind support until some demands are meet.

5
Hiranya Malwatta

Nobody should give blind support.

I don't see anything out of the ordinary in this statement.

4
Paschen

Japan has put the UN resolution up front and those will have to be meet, further Japan will never go against the UN, the US or the EU.

It is no foul since its own economy and credibility depends on it.

0
Hiranya Malwatta

And you find anything odd about that? Strange.

4
CeeGee

As posted by you,

1. Japan welcomes ...

2. Japan hopes ...

3. Japan will also continue to support ...

I can't see any nuances or demands in this. Can anybody else?

What a contradiction!

After all what is said and done. There is a lot more said, than done.

3
israeli.agent

I don't understand what the problem is. People Republic of China given force - blind support to Sri Lanka. They are reds too.

What problem, sir?

.Agent.

4
freedom_writer

Yes I agree with Paschen. Japan will not blindly support sri lanka for whatever it does.  I would like to point here, Japan havent voted in un security council for the international investigation of war crimes meaning they are neither in favour of sri lanka or against them. They wont give blind support like china. Japan don't need any port in sri lanka.

4
L-S

Japan does need the "whaling vote!" There'll be payback, there always is!
