Jared Lee Loughner Makes First Court Appearance: Jared Lughner Mug Shot Photo Released
The accused Arizona gunman, believed responsible for the Tucson Shooting Tragedy, Jared Lee Loughner, made a court appearance on Monday.
Federal officials released Loughner's mug shot, showing him smiling into the camera despite hints of a black eye.
"Yes, I am Jared Lee Loughner," said Loughner, with a freshly shaved head, when the Judge Lawrence Anderson asked him to confirm his identity.
No Federal Judge in Arizona is taking the case, since one of the victims was a federal judge as well.
22-year-old, Jared Lee Loughner, is accused of killing six people on Saturday and injuring 14 others, including U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords.
Jared Lee Loughner has been appointed lawyer, Judy Clarke - Clark is the lawyer who defended Oklahoma City bombing conspirator Timothy McVeigh. Clark made the argument that the case against Jared Lee Loughner should be moved out of Arizona because it would be impossible for Loughner to get fair trial in Tucson.
Jared Loughner is charged with one count of attempted assassination of a member of Congress, two counts of killing an employee of the federal government and two counts of attempting to kill a federal employee. The charges are a mix of Federal and local charges and their is a chance that if convicted Loughner could get the death penalty.
Loughner was remanded into custody, being held without bail. Jared Lee Loughner will make his next court appearance on January 24th
