Jarrod Wyatt To Face Trial for Killing Taylor Powell, Eating His Heart: It's Still Zombie Week

In May 2010, mixed martial artist Jerrod Wyatt was arrested for the murder of friend and fellow fighter Taylor Powell. The details of the crime were shocking, though they'd fit right in with this week's news cycle. (We're calling it "Zombie Week", at the risk of diminishing the too-real crimes taking place.)

Taylor Powell and Jarrod Wyatt had consumed tea made with psychedelic mushrooms, and then got into a fight. Wyatt then allegedly stabbed Powell and cut out the victim's heart and tongue; he then proceeded to cook them.

Wyatt's friend and ex-girlfriend were present at the time, and they called 911. Jarrod Wyatt was found covered in blood, and allegedly told the responding officers, "I killed him."

Now Jarrod Wyatt has been deemed mentally fit to stand trial for the murder of Taylor Powell.

Having pleaded not guilty and not guilty by reason of insanity to charges of murder and special circumstance allegations of mayhem and torture, Wyatt faces life in prison without the possibility of parole if convicted.
