Jason Green, the EMT Who Refused to Help Eutisha Rennix During His Break on December 9 2009, Has Been Shot to Death

Police are saying Green's refusal to help Eutisha Rennix late last year is not linked to his shooting death early Sunday morning outside Greenhouse club in SoHo.

Green and a friend were trying to gain access to the Greenhouse club when they were turned away by a bouncer. They then got in to an argument with a man or a group of men outside the club near Vandam and Hudson streets and that is when Green was shot. Police have said they do not believe the person who shot Green was the same that was involved in the sidewalk fight; no one has been arrested in the case at the time of publication.

"Two guys were fighting on the corner, loudly, and the guy who got shot kicked one guy in the face," a witness said.

"The fight moved down the street and more people joined in. Then there were two gunshots and it was over."

Once news was released of Green's death, speculation was rampant that it was connected to his refusal to help Eutisha Rennix last year.

Green was on his break with his girlfriend and fellow EMT Melisa Jackson in December at the Au Bon Pain in New York. Rennix was six months pregnant at the time with a three-year-old son, when she suffered a fatal asthma attack. Despite pleas from Rennix's co-workers Green and Jackson did not help the woman and advised to call 911 instead. Once the first ambulance arrived on the scene, both of them had already left.

Rennix was taken to Long Island College Hospital where she gave birth to her child, but both died a short while later. Green and Jackson said that they did not help her because they did not have the proper medical equipment to do so. They were suspended for a month for 'neglect of duty' and were then reassigned to non-emergency work. No charges were filed but the case was still being investigated.

Green, who joined the FDNY in 2003, had scoffed at the accusation he ignored the stricken Rennix. "That is all bogus and lies and fabrications," Green told a reporter.

There was of course talk that Green's death was a payback for what happened last year, but the Rennix family have said they are shocked at what happened to Green. Eutisha's sister Marva said karma can come back to haunt you:

"I don't think anybody deserves to die, even though they do wrong things," she said. "[But] sometimes when you do wrong things, it comes back to you."

Greenhouse who turned away Green and his friend, have had three discrimination suits filed again them since they opened, all based on race. Three separate groups of people have said the club refused entry to them based purely on their race, but Greenhouse's owners says the allegations are absurd and may be filing countersuits.
