Coppell Mayor Jayne Peters and Daughter Corinne Peters Found Dead in Murder / Suicide

The Mayor and her daughter were found dead in their home on Tuesday night and police have now confirmed that Coppell Mayor Jayne Peters committed suicide and have ruled her daughter Corinne Peter's death a homicide. Both died of gunshot wounds to the head and there was no sign of any forced entry in to the home located in the 700 block of Greenway Drive.

The two lived in the house alone.

"At this point all we can really say is the investigation is just not complete," Logan said. "There are a lot of things we need to look at."

Mayor Jayne Peters did not show up at the council meeting on Tuesday night and City Manager Clay Phillips asked the police to check on her; that is when the bodies were discovered. Bob Mahalik is now acting Mayor of the city.

Friends and co-workers are shocked by the news and said Mayor Peters did not show any sign of personal trouble. Her husband had died from cancer in January 2008.

Clay Phillips, city manager of Coppell, called the deaths a "tremendous loss for the city, the community and region."

On Wednesday a collection of flowers and cards had begun to grow outside the Peters' home.

A printed letter said: “Please know that you are loved no matter what happens. I know that God is with you and giving you comfort. You both are with Don, a wonderful husband and father. A family again.”

Corinne Peters, described as an outstanding student and a gifted dancer, graduated from Coppell High School this year and was bound for the University of Texas at Austin.

This is truly a tragic story.  Perhaps antidepressants were involved. The Physicians Desk Reference states that SSRI antidepressants and all antidepressants can cause mania, psychosis, abnormal thinking, paranoia, hostility, etc.  These side effects can also appear during withdrawal. Also, these adverse reactions are not listed as Rare but are listed as either Frequent or Infrequent. Go to www.SSRIstories.com where there are over 4,000 cases, with the full media article available, involving bizarre murders, suicides, school shootings/incidents  [55 of these] and murder-suicides - all of which involve SSRI antidepressants like Prozac, Zoloft, Paxil, etc, . The media article usually tells which SSRI antidepressant the perpetrator was taking or had been using

I did read in one of the articles that the mayor had been to the doctor complaining of eye pain.  Maybe it was an undiagnosed brain tumor.  It happened to my grandfather, who was a very astute and savvy businessman, and he gave away over $100,000 to a scam artist, before he was diagnosed.  It can alter a person's entire personality. I'm so saddened every time I read an article like this.  It's a real tragedy, and seems to be quickly becoming an epidemic.

It is both ignorant and offensive to imply that antidepressants were the cause of this tragedy.

Really? Why is it offensive? Are you yourself on them and this is why you think this? Alls I know is after studying side-effects and the withdawal from these "drugs" for 4 years and after going through HORRIFIC withdrawal for one year myself, I feel these drugs are extremly dangerous and if you yourself are on them, more of a reason for you to research yourself.

Jebernst75 it is truly ignorant and offensive not to recognize that SSRIs are associated with this kind of violence. I have been on them without side effects. I have seen others go throught extreme psychosis including one who killed two people and injured one. They are powerful psychiatric drugs - they can precipitate psychosis and violence.

It seems premature to claim that antidepressants caused this woman to do this.  More often than not it is that they are not complying with recommended treatment.  More information will have to come forward from blood work and their history before the police can get a better picture of what drove her to this tragic step.
