Jenny Sanford: Not Concerned for Mark Sanford's Career

Jenny Sanford has said that she will not concern herself with Governor Mark Sanford's political career, but work on keeping her marriage to her husband together as best she can. Jenny Sanford has not speculated on whether or not Mark Sanford will-- or should-- resign over the scandal erupting from his affair with Maria Belen Shapur. Meanwhile, Mark Sanford has apologized to his staff for concealing his trip to Argentina.

"His career is not a concern of mine," she told reporters as she departed the family's vacation home in Sullivan's Island, South Carolina. "He's going to have to worry about that. I'm worried about my family and the character of my children."

Earlier, Senator Sanford had stated that his wife knew about the affair for five months before the scandal broke.

The Republican on Friday held his typical public meeting with the agency chiefs, but started with apologies and likening his confession and future to the biblical plight of King David.

It is sad that the governor's actions seemed to so completely disregard how this might affect his family, especially his young sons.

He should have realized that being the governor of a state, leaving without a definitive word on where he would be, might raise a level of suspicion.

It seemed truly obvious to me Mrs. Sanford didn't care about the governor's career when she responded she didn't know where he was and later, saying even after he had spoken to others upon his return that she still hadn't spoken to him.

It appears she wasn't in the mood to provide any sort of cover for him.
