First there was "God Damn America!", putting the Rev. Jeremiah Wright outside patriotism, and both he and his protege Barack Obama into the hot seat. Now Wright's been caught in an extra-marital affair that's gone outside the Ten Commandments, and trashed at least one marriage.

And, it turns out that he snagged his current wife while she was married to someone else.

He almost wreckedBarack Obama's presidential dreams, and now firebrand pastor Jeremiah Wright has helped destroy a Dallas church worker's marriage - and her job, The Post has learned.

Elizabeth Payne, 37, said she had a steamy sexual affair with the controversial, racially divisive man of the cloth while she was an executive assistant at a church headed by a popular Wright protégé.

When word of the unholy alliance got out, Payne's husband dumped her, and she was canned from the plum job at Friendship-West Baptist Church, she told The Post.

"I was involved with Rev. Wright, and that's why I lost my job and why my husband divorced me," Payne said.

...

n an ironic twist, Wright last night spoke at an East Orange, NJ, church revival on the subject of "unexpected problems."

He punctuated his 45-minute sermon with evocative 1960s hits, including the Supremes' "Where Did Our Love Go," Frankie Beverley's "Joy and Pain," and the Temptations' "Ain't Too Proud to Beg." He's set to speak there again tonight.

This story is now exploding across the blogosphere and news services. However, it's been ignored here on NP--unlike posts about Sarah Palin that were based on rumors and lies proven to be ...lies. Interesting.

Deconstructing the message of this article -

Guilt by Association
An association fallacy is an inductive formal fallacy of the type hasty generalization or red herring which asserts that qualities of one thing are inherently qualities of another, merely by an irrelevant association. The two types are sometimes referred to as guilt by association and honor by association. Association fallacies are a special case of red herring, and can be based on an appeal to emotion.

Guilt by association as an ad hominem fallacy
Guilt by association can sometimes also be a type of ad hominem fallacy, if the argument attacks a person because of the similarity between the views of someone making an argument and other proponents of the argument.

This form of the argument is as follows:

  • A [is non-white and sleeps with his secretary].
  • B [is also non white and formerly associated with A].
  • Therefore, [B must sleep with his secretary too].

Cleverly deconstructed, Emilio.

Actually, no. No inference at all that Obama is sleeping with his secretary.

Just facts. There's a whole long history of them, starting with Obama's long-term relationship with Wright and his church, its teachings, and his spiritual mentor's ethics and leadership.

Somewhat the same thing as Obama's relationship with the terrorist Bill Ayers: fact. No one is saying that Obama is a terrorist.

But, given the rush by the left to believe, say, even rumors alleged to be voiced by some unknown waitress, it's more than fair to present some facts.

Some will not like them, and would wish them to be repressed, because they are facts, and they do point to significant questions to be asked about Obama. The sad thing is--there are too many who have embraced a cult-like thinking about Obama in which nothing about him can be questioned or criticized, and any and all opposition can be savaged with the most ruthless of lies.

At lunch today, this topic came up. Again, reports that the lies and the smears directed against Sarah Palin, the sexism, the attacks on her child, have swung more people over to the other side. Add to all that, significant facts about Obama and his associations, and many are now adding up some things that are leading them to make a pro-McCain decision.

Fact - You took a cheap shot here and got called on it ...

Fact - These things happen ...

Fact - Nice try ...

Fact - Let's get over it and move on ...

And, if, Emilio, you're taking a stand against "guilt by association," then no more can be said about the links between McCain and Bush because they are both Republicans. Apply your own syllogism! Also out: any allegations of links between McCain or Palin and oil companies, because well--see above.

That sword cuts both ways. If the left were forced to stop intoning Bush, for the reason you articulated above, Emilio, then they'd have to evaluate McCain on his own merits, fairly.

Wait ... wait a minute !!!

Now you're saying Bush and McCain are sleeping together ?

What's going on here ?

Very confused now ...

I hadn't heard that one but, wasn't Senator McCain married to someone else when he began pursuing his current wife?
