Jet Li Takes S$19.8M Leap
Kung fu great Jet Li has taken a big leap to Singapore from China investing S$19.8 million to buy a house there.
The box-office martial art star is now a citizen of the island city-state.
Li's latest prime property investment was reported in Singapore Business Times on Wednesday,June 17,2009.
After China movie queen Gong Li, Jet Li is the second big movie star to take up Singapore citizenship.
Apparently, Singapore's world class education system, infrastructure, fine lifestyle and safe and clean environment have attracted Jet Li to move his family there.
Jet Li is the movie star name of Li Lianjie,46, the kung fu master famous for epic series like Once Upon A Time In China in which he played folk hero Wong Fei Hung.
Besides another epic series,Fong Sai Yuk, Jet Li has won great global acclaim for his classy wushu moves in Shaolin Temple,The Forbidden Kingdom(starring with Hong Kong Kung fu great Jackie Chan),Lethal Weapon 4,Romeo Must Die,Hero and Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor(with James Bond girl Michelle Yeoh of Crouching tiger,Hiddeen Dragon fame).
The high kicking fast punching star is a real kung fu master.
At only age 11, Jet Li won the All-China Wushu championship that got him a special trip to Washington D.C. to meet the late US President Richard Nixon.
As a member of the famed Beijing Wushu Team, he collected 15 gold and one silver medals for various wushu art forms, retiring at 17 to focus on his film career.
Since his debut at 16,he has won millions of ardent fans around the globe for his fast action flicks, graceful martial art motions and epic fight for justice.
For his role in the Warlords, sharing the limelight with Asian film greats Andy Lau and Takeshi Kaneshiro,Jet Li won the Hong Kong Film Best Actor Award.
In Fearless,he played legendary Huo Yuanjia, the founder of the respected Chin Woo Athletic Association in 2006.He also starred in Fist of Legend, a remake of the famous Bruce Lee's Fist of Fury.
And in 2009,Jet Li has teamed up with Hollywood Action Legends Sylvester Stallone,Arnold Schwarzenegger,Jason Satham,Doplh Lundgren and Mickey Rourke in a movie about mercenaries in The Expendables.
I love to watch Jet Li for his swift graceful kicks, lethal punches, masterful sword, spear, stick and flexible iron rods plays and acrobatic surprises as he picks and licks his opponents.
In addition to Jet Li,I have also enjoyed the fantastic flying kicks of the late legendary Bruce Lee of The Big Boss fame and Jackie Chan's real-life stunts and humour like those in the Police Story series.
Jet Li,Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan stand out as true blue movie stars with real kung fu skills mastered over many years of hard training.
It's a great delight to see them fight for justice and right the wrong.
In memory of his lucky escape from death with his daughter Jane, then aged four, when the Asian Indian Ocean Tsunami swept the Maldives in 2004,Jet Li has set up a charitable organization called the One Foundation.
As a philanthropic ambassador of the China Red Cross Society and founder of One Foundation, Jet Li has contributed to worthy causes like the Sichuan earthquake relief work.
The One Foundation won the China Charity Award on December 5 last year.
Subsequently,it teamed up with China Merchant Bank to launch an innovative joint caring credit card based on the one person-one month-one dollar donation concept.
Hence,Jet Li has built on his star status to extend a helping hand to the distressed, the needy and the poor. He is a most worthy global hero.
