My friend at NowPublic, Tikun, says that Israel is facing its last stand against the Arab world. Politely I suggest, there is no “Arab world” anymore than there is a “Jewish world.”

The World is surely not perfect. People don’t have perfect religions nor do they have perfect institutions. Anyone who thinks they are superior is riding high for a fall, whether they are Muslims calling for beheading or Jews sacred claim for land. It is all a matter of viewpoint.

Time stops for no one. Change is constant.

The best way that Israel can maintain its autonomous state in a land surrounded by dominance and difference in numbers is to be as gracious and as helpful as it can be to its neighbors.

Since the dispute between Arabs and Jews includes land that is precious to both, there must be external arbitration. That’s the only way to settle it.

Once the arbitrator achieves a decision, then Israel, being better off and more successful must adopt a policy to assist its former enemies. Progress will be made when that happens.

Still, the terrorists and criminals will persist, though the arbitrators turned sponsor supporters can help on solid footing. I am not being theoretical. With the right leadership from the two camps, and with effective arbitration from a diverse mix in the international community, hard work will produce results.

So who want this job? Count me in.

“No Holds Barred: Open season on the Jewish state

The Jews who were murdered in Germany and Poland cannot speak out. The rest of us, however, have absolutely no excuse.

Helen Thomas’s stomach-turning comments about the Jews returning to Germany and Poland, where six million were killed, are striking for their racism and insensitivity. Whether she said them out of senility or anti-Semitism is beside the point. Either way she has no business working for any respectable media organization or sitting as the senior White House correspondent directly in front of the president of the United States. When Don Imus made racially charged statements against a woman’s basketball team, candidate Barack Obama demanded he be fired. It will be interesting to see how President Obama, who could not offer a single word of support for Israel since the flotilla affair, will react.”

I am an optimist. Otherwise I wouldn't be living here. There are clear guidelines and agreed compromises already satisfied by both parties, except Hamas, because they do not agree to accept a Jewish State. However, as long as the other parties not directly involved play out their political agendas in this region we will have a hard time getting an agreement. No outside pressure is going to work as long as Israel and its people feel that it risks the survival of the nation.

While there are people on both sides that resist any kind of compromise they are in fact in the minority. A two State solution is the only solution that has any reasonable chance of developing. One also needs to understand that the size of the area is so small  that it takes less then 4 minutes by jet from the med/Tel Aviv to the Jordan river. There is little room for error.

It is not paranoia by the Israelis but real practical understanding that shooting a missile from the West Bank  into our only international airport is simple and with little effort from anywhere in the West Bank. We need sincere willingness by both parties. But both parties also need to understand that there is no choice but to make a deal.

I understand and agree. I guess I can't get an arbitration assignment to Israel, land of my lost roots as I am a Welshman from the lost tribe with DNA to prove it.

You are always welcome in my house in Tel Aviv. No kidding.. anytime.

A little info from today:

74 patients + accompanying indvdls exited Gaza for med treatment + 50 Int. org. entered #Gaza yesterday.

116 trucks (2,378 tons) humanitarian aid + 240,000 liters diesel fuel were imported 2 #Gaza yesterday.

98 trucks humanitarian aid, gas & fuel entered #Gaza 2day. Hamas still refuses entry 40+ flotilla aid trucks.
