New Delhi: Jharkhand assembly election current situation. Jharkhand elections on Wednesday produced a hung assembly placing Congress-JVM(P) alliance in a leading position with 24 seats and JMM and RJD emerging key players in a possible secular formation to form a government.The BJP-JD(U) was emerging as the second largest grouping with 20 seats. The BJP, which had won 30 seats in the 2005 elections, was leading in 18 while the JD(U) was ahead in two. The Shibu Soren-led JMM, which had participated in the first UPA government and may play the kingmaker role in the state, was leading in 17 seats.

The Congress, which was leading in 13 and its ally Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik) in 11, have both indicated that they are not averse to taking support from any party to form a secular government. RJD was leading in seven seats.

RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav said in Patna that he would work for formation of a secular government. The leaders of Congress, JVM(P), RJD and JMM would sit together to explore the possibility of forming a government, he said.

The 28th state of the Indian Union Jharkhand was brought into existence by the Bihar reorganization Act on November 15, 2000 - the birth anniversary of the legendary Bhagwan Birsa Munda. Jharkhand is famous for its rich mineral resources like Uranium, Mica, Bauxite, Granite, Gold, Silver, Graphite, Magnetite, Dolomite, Fireclay, Quartz, Fieldspar, Coal (32% of India), Iron, Copper (25%of India) etc. Forests and woodlands occupy more than 29% of the state which is amongst the highest in India.
