SEPARATE BUT EQUAL SENIOR PROMS IN GEORGIA HIGH SCHOOLS
~ Montgomery County High School in Georgia has two separate proms for its graduating seniors - one for the white students and one for the black ones.

A PROM DIVIDED
There are 54 students in the class of 2009 at Montgomery County High School. On May 1 — a balmy Friday evening — the white students held their senior prom. And the following night — a balmy Saturday — the black students had theirs.
Racially segregated proms have been held in Montgomery County — where about two-thirds of the population is white — almost every year since its schools were integrated in 1971. Such proms are, by many accounts, longstanding traditions in towns across the rural South, though in recent years a number of communities have successfully pushed for change. When the actor Morgan Freeman offered to pay for last year’s first-of-its- kind integrated prom at Charleston High School in Mississippi, his home state, the idea was quickly embraced by students — and rejected by a group of white parents, who held a competing “private” prom.
The senior proms held by Montgomery County High School students — referred to by many students as “the black-folks prom” and “the white-folks prom” — are organized outside school through student committees with the help of parents. All students are welcome at the black prom, though generally few if any white students show up. The white prom, students say, remains governed by a largely unspoken set of rules about who may come.
Black members of the student council say they have asked school administrators about holding a single school-sponsored prom, but that, along with efforts to collaborate with white prom planners, has failed. According to Timothy Wiggs, the outgoing student council president and one of 21 black students graduating this year, “We just never get anywhere with it.”
Angel [a black student] shrugged. “I really don’t understand,” she said. “Because I’m thinking that these people love me and I love them, but I don’t know. Tonight’s a different story.”
(See the link above for the NY Times video and more)
***********************************************
I relate very strongly with Angel. I have always known that prejudice exists in the same way that one knows the Fiji Islands exist in the South Pacific. You don't expect it to have personal impact on your life. When prejudice is not a part of your psyche and you have numerous white friends, it is surprising to be an object of racism. I feel that African American females may be less aware than black men of Jim Crow lines in the 21st century. Maybe that is why the concept of any students having separate proms seemed bizarre to me. I thought old Jim was dead in public schools, even in Dixie.
The things I have learned over the last few years about the prison system in America probably would not have surprised me as much if I had gone to high school in Montgomery County, Georgia.
Condemned inmate Troy Davis was convicted by an all white jury in Chatham County in the 1989 shooting death of Officer McPhail, a white officer. Georgia courts have repeatedly denied Davis a new trial despite the fact that seven of the nine witnesses who testified against him have recanted, and some of them claim they were coerced by police into giving false testimony at Davis' trial. Davis' most recent rejection for a new trial was issued by Georgia's 11th Circuit Court of Appeals in April, and his temporary stay of execution recently expired. A death warrant can now be issued for this black man in a place where he is denied any opportunity to present new evidence - a place where school children are still taught to be separatists.
Amnesty International and other human rights organizations are involved in the effort to win for Troy Davis a "fair day in a just court," which is how Davis refers to the new trial he may never be granted in Georgia. Below is an excerpt from Amensty International's website.
http://www.amnestyusa.org/document.php?id=ENGNAU200809246005
Many tens of thousands of people in the USA and around the world have appealed for clemency for Troy Davis. Among them were former President Jimmy Carter, Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Pope Benedict XVI; the European Union, the European Parliament, and the Secretary General of the Council of Europe; former FBI Director William Sessions, and former and current members of US Congress Bob Barr, Carol Moseley Braun and John Lewis. In this last week, as the execution approached, media attention on the case has remained high.
International standards prohibit the execution of anyone whose guilt is in doubt. Amnesty International opposes Troy Davis’s execution unconditionally, regardless of questions of guilt or innocence, as it does all use of the death penalty.
***********************************************
TROY DAVIS LIVES UNDER A GAG ORDER. HE IS PROHIBITED FROM SPEAKING IN HIS OWN DEFENSE. Not only is his new evidence prohibited from being heard in a new trial, but Troy Davis is censored so that he cannot share proof of his innocence with the world. See the email below from the NAACP.

Tell the Georgia Department of Corrections to let Troy speak!
Dear Addressee,
A few hours ago, I met with Troy Davis on death row.
As you know, he is facing the death penalty in Georgia for killing a police officer -- but since his trial, seven out of nine witnesses have recanted or contradicted their testimony. And with no physical evidence to link him to the crime, it is likely he is innocent.
Besides the fact that Troy is facing execution for a crime that he may not have committed, he also told me that he is being denied the right to speak out on his own behalf despite the fact that others in his position are allowed to do so.
*Please contact Commissioner Brian Owens of the Georgia Department of Corrections to demand that he remove the gag order on Troy Davis:

In my meeting with Troy, I discovered that 60 Minutes, Dateline, and the Associated Press have all been denied media access to Troy. When Georgia won't let the media talk to the accused man, it is a flagrant abuse of his First Amendment rights. In fact, the case of Troy Davis highlights how broken our criminal justice system is... and why we must reform it. Today, more than 60% of the people in prison are people of color. African Americans make up more than 40% of those on death row.
This summer, the NAACP will launch a campaign to reform our country's criminal justice system with the goal of making our communities safer, improving police performance, saving money, and keeping more of our young men and women out of prison. But Troy can't wait for this summer. We need your help now! An innocent man may be executed. You and I must work together to reform our country's criminal justice system, and we must start by saving the life of one man.
Please contact Commissioner Brian Owens of the Georgia Department of Corrections today and demand he give Troy the right to speak.

Is this a racial thing? I never thought of this before, but now I wonder if I have trouble posting news and photos to my story because I am black. Amy has no trouble posting my photographs and tagging my articles, and she is white. NP, you should look around for an intruder wearing a hood, I think. The cyberstalker assigned to NP is a prejudice SOB, apparently, and not necessarily a white one.
Good and evil have no racial distinctions. Character, or the lack thereof, comes in all flavors. It is unfortunate that the school children in Montgomery High School are apparently being taught something different. Although racism is passed down from generation to generation, it is not a genetic defect. It is a heinous disease that is spread by the mouth - talking to children about white or black supremacy and keeping prejudice alive in the 21st century. Next year, I hope all the students boycott both proms. I would never allow my child to go. I recognize that many people are not Christians, but it is particularly grievous to me to know that people are teaching children racism in the 21st century - something that is so evil that if it takes root in their hearts, they will die and go to hell like their grandparents did - many of whom were surprised when they landed! Read:
Why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say? (Luke 6:46) And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. (Matthew 7:23)
Right and wrong are not racially discerned. The men who chased me in the four cars and a USDOT truck were all black, just as many of the people who dog out my family in our justice quest are. Black people have always had to be mindful of the "whipping boys." That is a slave term from a time when plantation owners did not themselves chase runaway slaves through swamps, drag them back to the plantation and whip them; there were designated black men to do that (See Cochran Firm Fraud 1 and 2 on YouTube for a full account). Many African Americans need deliverance from prejudice, just as many whites do. Some of the things that were said during our last presidential campaign by people of both races evidenced a great need for CHANGE! It feels no better to be trampled underfoot by black feet than it does when the boots encase white feet. See this:
AIMI's Apology to Civil Rights Groups and Others

Now, the cyberstalker won't allow me to add my photographs and the rest of my tags. Stay tuned - I emailed them to Amy. If she is unavailable, let me know who I should email them to instead. Thanks.
*************
I think this cyberstalker is on drugs - hard drugs. He/she now allowed the photos for this article, but would not let the titles and descriptions post. We black people have to work twice as hard as white people to arrive at nearly the same spot - always has been the case. I used to hear that said, and now I can truthfully say, "Amen!" Sometimes it takes me an hour and five emails to get just one picture posted. Does it take my white writer friends anywhere near that long and require such effort? Doubtful. There is nothing at all free about my "free speech" and "free press." I can tell you that! Well, like the kid's rhyme, I will try, try again.
***********
Finally, hours later, I have been allowed to post my article, the photographs, and my tags. I type 90 wpm, so this should have taken minutes! I wonder what color my hair really is after years of dealing with such censorship and stalking - both online and in person? What has it accomplished for those who oppose the truth? Likely nothing! Opponents' arms are too short to box with God. The truth my censorship is meant to suppress is going forward anyway, and not by my efforts only. Far from it. God has an army fighting to bring more justice to America's justice system by spreading the truth and demanding change.

My goodness! You mean there are others? I heard a rumor that racism is not over in America, and now you just convinced me. Thank you for the link. I will look at it and I hope others will, also. A loving woman once wrote:

We forfeit great possibilities by not getting along and respecting each other. Read:

The motto for Atlanta is "The City Too Busy To Hate." That is a good motto for everywhere, I BELIEVE. Since that logic has not even permeated Georgia yet, I just wrote a post and asked President Obama to please pardon Troy Davis and save America from the possibility of civil unrest.
I don't think it will go over too well to execute a black man who has not been proved guilty. I would stay home, but many others would not. I looked at the videos of the protest after Oscar Grant's murder. It appears that we came close to more violent riots like those after Rodney King's beating when 32 people died. The Oscar Grant riots in California are a part of this news article:
Oscar Grant: 1st Unarmed Black Man Police Killed in 2009 - Next?
http://my.nowpublic.com/world/oscar-grant-1st-unarmed-black-man-police-killed-2009-next
If you view the riot footage at the link above, you will notice that many of the protestors who were outraged at Oscar Grant's murder were white. When Dr. King marched, many of those who marched with him and supported the civil rights movement were also white. President Obama would never have been elected if not for the collective votes of people from different races and ethnicities. Many of the voices raised against Troy Davis' gag order, denial of a new trial, and planned execution come from men and women of conscience who are white as well as other ethnicities from all over the globe. The world has moved beyond segragation and racism to a large degree. Please catch up!
We could avoid civil unrest by just being fair and having more sanity about race. God made everybody, and he did not want us all to look alike. God has such power that He chose to express His creative genius by making diverse plants, rocks, cloud formations, and people! Accept that and try to love everybody. If you cannot love folks of another race, at least respect their right to life and other basic human rights. "Liberty and justice for all" has never been a reality, but we can make it so. We should all try to do that.
See my request at this link: http://www.care2.com/c2c/share/detail/1155449
Because the judges in Georgia's 11th Circuit Court of Appeals would not allow a new trial, it is now up to Gov. Purdue or President Obama to pardon Troy Davis. The man has suffered through enough last minute stays of execution. Please don't do that to his family and him again. Just let him go. You know you don't have enough evidence to go to trial against him. That is obvious to everyone. Just let him go. Please. Look at it this way - he has already served as long on death row as some people served who got life sentences. So even if he is guilty, he already paid dearly. Save us from Martial Law, please. I look forward to going to the park again some day when folks give up containing the news about my brother's murder in Shelby County Jail in Memphis, TN.

I named the widget "SEPARATE BUT EQUAL PROMS IN GA IN 21st CENTURY." The cyberstalker took the name away. People who want and have JIM CROW proms going on in this modern world should just stand up and own up to it. Don't have the cyberstalkers remove the TRUTH. Remove the GAG ORDER against Troy Davis. You plan to execute the man and will not give him a new trial on his evidence before a fair jury comprised of HIS PEERS. Now you won't allow him to speak to the press. Shameful racism.
WE WILL SPEAK FOR YOU, TROY DAVIS, AND OTHER PRISONERS.
THE TRUTH WILL NOT BE SUPPRESSED. ACT BETTER. ACT IN SUCH A WAY THAT YOU NEED NOT BE ASHAMED. If you are prejudice as hell, just go on and be that. Don't try to hide. You are what you are. Don't censure me. Don't censor me. Don't re-write my news. Allow Troy Davis to have his last words before his lynching!
at 18:41 on May 27th, 2009
I am so sorry this is still happening, in my own home state of Georgia. I am sixty five years old, Caucasian, a Georgia native, and I grew up in a time of segregation. I don't believe everything society taught back then. My parents did not teach me the evils of prejudice, for which I am thankful.
I was astounded when I read about this incident last week.
I still have faith in most residents of Georgia. However, those who have not earned my trust are sometimes powerful in government.
This mentality must be broken. our young people must be taught as our Master Teacher, and example of love, Jesus, taught. He taught love, not to one group or the other. but to all. We are to love one another, even as he has loved us.
I believe that Troy Davis, whether gilty or innocent, has been tormented enough, on and off death row for more than twenty years. I know, in my heart's deepest chambers, that this man is innocent. The very least he deserves is a FAIR trial. In my opinion, he deserves completelfreedom.
I pray for strength for him, and for the voices on his behalf. I pray for fairness in the hearts of those who decide his fate.
I thank Troy Davis for helping bring this issue to public attention, and I pray his suffering is not futile.

Thank you for responding, Clara. Things like this Jim Crow approach to prom in the 21st century in a public school body shocked many people and opened a few eyes to the reality of where we live.
On one hand, we live in a country where so many people have moved beyond old prejudices that we have for the first time a black president, blacks and whites work together, worship together, and have abiding friendships with each other. On the other hand, a black family like mine can have a sick member be secretly arrested in a Dixie jail, returned to his family as a corpse, and then be persecuted and endangered for daring to ask what happened to him. - http://WrongfulDeathOfLarryNeal.com.
Young men like Troy Davis was in 1989 can be arrested, tried by a jury in Georgia without being given all the facts, a place where Jim Crow is still openly practiced and taught to young people. People in power are so intent on killing Davis that they deny him a re-trial although witnesses withdrew their testimony. The world is pretty amazed about that, but perhaps the proms explain things.
Much progress has been made, Clara, but not nearly as much as you and I thought. People who are not prejudice are generally not aware of how much racism still exists. When I saw the headline about Jim Crow proms, I had to stare at it for a while. Who would have thought? Even with all that I have encountered and learned in the last couple of years, that left me speechless.
We appreciate your response. See more articles about justice issues at http://NowPublic.com/duo. Many blessings. People like you will just have to continue to speak against ignorance and oppression.

Thanks for responding to the article. It is sad that racism is being taught to young hearts. These young people will grow up and have to deal in the real world, and if they have been taught separatist ideas that the world set aside decades ago, it will be hard on some of the Caucasian students. Can you imagine what their lives could be like if they are hired on a job with a black supervisor? They probably would not know what to do, because they have obviously been taught that they are superior to African Americans by birth. How will they respond some day at work functions that are not segregated? Will the companies that hire the Caucasian students get sued for racial discrimination some day because of Jim Crow ideals these young people were taught in the Georgia high school?

Thanks for responding and for TELLING THE WORLD AND MY CYBERSTALKERS THAT THE NEWS IS OUT ALREADY! Why they keep censoring me is something I cannot understand. Don't you and everyone you know already know about the secret arrest and wrongful death of my handicapped brother, Larry Neal, in Shelby County Jail in Memphis, TN and The Cochran Firm Fraud, as laid out on YouTube at the videos "Cochran Firm Fraud 1 and 2"? Haven't you and over 50,000 other people already read about the USDOJ, Shelby County Jail, Georgia Superior Court, and TN State Bar getting together and denying my family any legal recourse after Larry's murder at http://wrongfuldeathoflarryneal.com ?
Yet they persist in censoring me. Yes, over and over, they persist. They must have believed that by merely containing the news of The Cochran Firm denying its existence in Georgia in court would suffice. They prevented that big news from going out over mainstream media, but that was not enough! They forgot independent news affiliates like NowPublic.com, IndyMedia, Care2 News Network, Yahoo Groups, and all of the many other Internet news resources!
Attempts to censor me are intended to keep other African Americans and Latino people trusting that law firm - like the family of Ms. Kathryn Johnston, the 92-year-old woman who police killed in 2006 in a no-knock warrant home invasion in Atlanta. Mainstream news helped suppress information about the Court Order I have saying there is no Cochran Firm in Georgia in order to trick that woman's family into giving the case to a law firm I know works for the police. The Court Order is VOID, because it was issued based on a fraud and perjury in court, allowed by the judge. Lots of people are in on defrauding African Americans in this respect, including mainstream media, which continues to advertise the Cochran Firm services to unsuspecting minority clients. Racism lives more places than Montgomery County, Georgia.
When they seek to contain the spread of this news on the Internet, and all they do is make themselves more obvious and loathsome.
Here is what I discovered they did today -- Today, I received notification of my new membership in the World View News Service, which was unsolicited but I appreciate, I responded by telling the membership about the secret arrest and wrongful death of my brother, a mentally ill heart patient in Shelby County Jail, and about the USDOJ's refusal to investigate it or uphold my family's civil rights.
Immediately, a cyberstalker tried to disconnect me from the World View News Service group by changing the email I sent to an "Unscribe" request!

Censorship in America is as ugly as it is in China or Nazi Germany. Let me speak freely about Larry Neal's death and the cover-up. Let Troy Davis speak freely about his conviction and planned execution.

I have considered why you may not be able to use your real name, Sheila. I have a niece named Sheila, a music teacher here in Georgia. They probably don't want two of Larry Neal's relatives talking online about his murder and the conspiracy by higher-ups to deny due process of law that ensued and continues today. http://wrongfuldeathoflarryneal.com
They know my relatives' names by reading my emails at Yahoo. My Yahoo emails are redirected, monitored, rejected (bounced without my reading them), and stolen if they seem useful in proving the way my family was treated by The Cochran Firm, the firm sent to contract with my 80-year-old mom and make sure no law suit ever got filed against Shelby Co. Jail after Larry's secret arrest and murder there. When I try to open an email the stalkers do not want me to see, I can click all day and it won't open. That usually happens to emails that come from anyone who has a BlogTalk Radio show, etc. Obviously, it never occurred to them that I could get my own radio show or ask one of AIMI's members to start one to discuss the mentally ill in prisons. I cross-posted this JIM CROW CROWNED PROM KING article to my Ning blog, and I will continue to post it and many people will continue to speak for Troy Davis, who you put under a GAG ORDER!
IF YOU INTEND TO KILL A MAN WITHOUT A FAIR TRIAL WITH HIS NEW EVIDENCE, LET'S DISCUSS IT OPENLY. LET US NOT HIDE JIM CROW PROMS HAPPENING IN THAT SAME STATE. Many people, particularly Southerners, claim to respect God. He said THOU SHALT NOT KILL, and He did not say, "Except Troy Davis."
You might reply "an eye for an eye." Let's see you prove Troy Davis is responsible for the "eye." Why can't you do that? PROVE IT. Give the man a new trial and prove that his execution would not be just a Southern lynching to go along with the Jim Crow school proms.
LET TROY DAVIS SPEAK! LET THE PRESS HAVE ACCESS TO THIS MAN! WHAT ARE YOU HIDING? God can see you, and He is not pleased. Troy Davis says he is a Christian. If he is, then it is God Himself that you offend. Just like I am chased by up to four vehicles and a USDOT truck for speaking up for my brother, Larry Morris Neal, a handicapped American who was secretly arrested and murdered in Shelby Co. Jail in Memphis, TN. Dixie is hell on black people in the 21st Century. Repent and be saved.

From Amnesty International re: Troy Davis
The U.S. Supreme Court delayed a decision on whether to grant Troy Davis an appeal until after it returns from recess in September. The court's decision (or non-decision) should be taken as a good sign. It gives us hope that at least some Supreme Court Justices may finally be waking up to the strong claims of innocence in this case and want to take more time to weigh the facts.
We are convinced that if the justices agree to hold a hearing and allow all evidence to be weighed, then they will come to see what we have known all along – the pieces just don't add up. When Davis was sentenced to death for the 1989 shooting of a police officer in Savannah, there was an absence of any physical evidence against him. Furthermore, the majority of witnesses who testified against him then, have now recanted or changed their stories altogether.
Troy's case continues to inspire the support of millions of activists and countless leaders speaking on behalf of human rights, including former President Jimmy Carter and Archbishop Desmond TuTu.
Our activism has already put the U.S. Supreme Court and Georgia officials on the fence. Now we've got to do all we can these next couple of months to guarantee justice for Troy Davis!
