NP Rank:
Joe the Plumber was registered with the Natural Law Party
Joe the Plumber not an "undecided" after all. Joe once was a member of the Natural Law Party. If the unified field, Yogi Fliers, Transcendental Meditation, and the Maharishi mean anything to you, you probably know about the Natural Law Party. Who was the candidate? It was Dr. John Hagelin. The party actual has folks running for office all over America for various government offices.
Joe went On to say he is registered to vote but not a Republican or Democrat because he has voted for both parties. He related to a Fox News reporter that his decision for voting for a candidate is based upon ones character not that he is an eloquent speaker. One reporter was able to find a registration that listed him as a Republican. It appears that Joe doesn't know what he is registered for.
Joe just isn't into, "Spreading the Wealth" as Senator Obama explained about tax rates for those who make 250,000 dollars or more.
Joe The Plumber Admits He Wasn't Undecided After All
Unfortunately, the national media has had a field day with Joe, almost universally reporting that he is an uncommitted voter, even though he doesn't make the same claim. He certainly is a nice little story for them, but it's a story they might want to ask some questions about, especially now that they've invited a relative unknown to appear on the morning shows.
For starters, according to Ben Smith, he's not registered to vote. It's hard to believe that this could be the case; it seems likely that there is some sort of clerical error. For example, his name could be mispelled as Worzelbacher instead of Wurzelbacher in the Lucas County file. (Update: Ben Smith notes that appears to be exactly what happened. 'Joe' appears to be a registered Republican under the name of Samuel Joseph Wurzelbacher. Also, earlier today at a press conference, Wurzelbacher said he originally registered with the Natural Law Party.)
It also seems odd that he just happens to be buying a business that would earn exactly the amount of money that would qualify it to be a McCain campaign talking point -- $250,000. Even more intriguing, McCain-land said they had never spoken with Joe before, but also made the following statement to Ben Smith:
McCain aides say there was no heads-up for Joe the Plumber, who's headed out to the morning shows tomorrow.
"Joe didn't know" that he'd be at the center of the debate," said Matt McDonald.
"We tried to call him during the debate, but his phone was busy," he said. "We're not going to put him through media training."
The Natural Law Party was founded in 1992 in the United States by a group of educators, business leaders, and lawyers in Fairfield, Iowa who practiced Transcendental Meditation.[1] The Natural Law Party was a transnational political party with national branches in over 80 countries.
The party based its platform on Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's view that natural law is the supreme organizing principle that governs the universe, and that the problems of humanity are caused by people acting against this natural law. The Natural Law Party claimed that it could realign humanity with this organizing principle through techniques such as the practice of Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi program, and problems would be alleviated.
The various Natural Law Parties disbanded over a period of years from 2001-2006.

Babel-Fish- Once November 4th comes I am taking a long vacation. Now I am covering Congress races. Will it never end? How this guy can be a Natural Law Party then a Republican is beyond my understanding

politisite, I like this story. It's good stuff. I watched some of that debate last night and was wondering if Joe was a fictional character. Now it seems that he is even stranger than that.

Barbara, He was a real person that was questioning Obama on the campaign trail. Cameras caught it all. Joe may not be fictional.. more like frightening. The one thing I can say about the Natural Law Party is that it is based on some new physics and a desire for peace on earth. The unified field is, in theroy, something we all can tap into, if enough meditate and enter into the state of the unified field peace can come.

politisite, this whole thing is just hilarious!
Some random guy is now going to have such a decision to make - it's like that movie that just came out with Kevin Costner - Swing Vote

Yeah, candidates talking about Joe the Plumber multiple times during the debate. It is amazing how both Parties latched on to the Joe story.
I knew that McCain was going to light up this time. I do not think he got a home run. The debate is good for a short term 2 point up tick. Sen. McCain reminded me of someone who would take pop shots then back off, come back take another and then back off again. He was told by his folks to go after Obama but don't make it look like your angry.
Speaking of movies, "A few good men" Demi Moore told Tom Cruise that if he couldn't get Nickleson to back off. Now tom cruise went in and finally yelled, "I want the truth", and then the statement, "you cant handle the truth" and he went nuts.
McCain chiped but never went the whole way... He lost because he was unwilling to take a chance.

It is the Party were everyone meditates and it will bring world peace. I think they are on the wrong frequency in the Unified field

If this is "Joe Six Pack" I think we now know whether it was a reference to abs or alcohol (ok - or non-diet soda).
Ironically, it would seem "Joe the Plumber" could be challenged and possibly lose his vote due to a faulty voter registration. However, that's not the end of the troubles his new-found fame may have brought him.
Mr. Wurzelbacher voter registration apparently contains incorrect information.

It also appears "Joe the Plumber" doesn't have a plumbing license.

He does have a realistic look at how much impact he will have in the election.

However, there was a "Joe the Plumber" who was the real overall winner of the debate.

You have enough for an article of your own. Yeah, I saw that he is not a licensed plumber as well. The name he is registered under doesn't appear correct either. I don't think I would go to the polls to vote with all of the problems. I think it would be good for Joe the Plumber to leave McCains mouth ASAP.
It is amazing what the net has done to politics. One story and a hundred thousand bloggers and new media look for the truth. I really think that is our contribution, as many of us, have the time to follow through on a Guy like this and find out so much.
During the Youtube/CNN/RPOF debate in St Pete, I was in the spin room when I found out that one of the guys who questioned the Republicans was a string Hillary supporter and worked for her. Then in an hour folks stated finding out the backgrounds of all those who were chosen to ask questions. I think when all the net fact checkers got done, they found out that 3/5th of the questions came from within Obama, Clinton, Edwards, and others.
Just 4 years ago we did not have this level of sophitication. Heck, I was in the spin room and didn't find out all of the information until I got back to my hotel. I was oblevious to what other folks were up to. Some of the young kids really know how to manover the net and find anything on anybody.
BTW thanks for your GS flag. It is satisfying when I can flag a story of yours and get a flag from you on a story even though we are quite opposite politically. I hope NP continues with an unbiased format as we can dialogue. I learn a lot from you.

Thanks Rene,
I think McCain will get a 2 point jump from this debate. He did not seal the deal. But I remember the last two elections. Gore and Kerry were up by over 10 points at this time. Kerry exit polling said he won by a large margin.
I don't need anyone to say that Bush was selected not elected either. In Florida, you want to talk voter suppression, what about the 28,000 military ballots? Oh and how about the 5500 convicted felons that cast their ballots in Florida. Now I wonder, if Bush won by only 537 votes, and the Gore Lawyers was able to suppress military absentee votes and the 5500 felons that voted in Florida. Now how many of the felons do you think were republican? I submit almost none.
Florida, this year, has not taken the felons off and there are 30K or more on the roles that can vote in this next election.
All the talk about Republicans and voter suppression in 2000 were not there, I was, Gore's lawyers did everything they could to get the Military voters to be disqualified because some of them arrived or were postmarked a day after they were supposed to be in. They also went over every one of them for any mistake by the Veterans.
ACORN also focused their registration drives in 10 swing states. In ohio alone there is almost 80K registrations that could be wrong. I wonder what is going on here.... do you think It might be on purpose, so that the Obama campaign can pick any state and say, hey, there is voter fraud or suppression in this state of that state. It is genious but very unethical. I thought Obama was differant? I guess he is not really clean like he says.
Last night at the debate when he was asked about ACORN he said he only worked as a lawyer for them and that is it. He lied. I don't use that term losely. He trained ACORN, he also gave 835,000 dollars to a sub group of ACORN. Something we call in the PR world as a turf group.
This is how it works: You set up a 501(c) corp, give it a name, and do business under that name rather then the controverisial name. The turf group (fake grass roots) then forwards the money to the group that is sopposed to get the money. In this case ACORN. He denied that he gave them 835,000 dollars. ACORNs leader is saying that the Turf group only gave them 80K to help them. The proble is that they are one in the same. It is the same thing money launderers do.
Enough of my rant. It is just dirty politics.

politisite, I like this story. It's good stuff. I think there are pleanty of Joe the Plumbers out there that realize that Obama's plan just doesn't make sense.
Companies are cutting jobs like crazy in TN... If Obama raises companies taxes they will be forced to let more people go. Tax cuts for the middle class aren't going to mean anything when they don't have a job.

According to Joe, McCain did try to get him to come onto the campaign trail before he was mentioned on tv in the debate. But Joe had no idea McCain would bring him up. Joe is unable to attend a campaign stump because he has TV appearances in New York. Yet he says he is not sure if he is a distraction for the campaign. Really???
Outing Joe the Plumber turned out to be a bad move on McCain's part. It seems Joe is not licensed, and according to officials in Ohio, he must be in order to work for his boss as a plumber. He also owes back taxes of over $1,300 which the government put a lean on his house for until he pays it off or sells his house. He also did not make $250,000 a year. He made less than $40,000 last year. Under the Obama plan, he would benefit from the tax codes Obama wants to inact.
It also stands to reason, that according to the McCain camp's own statements, this guy was not porperly vetted before McCain used him for political purposes. McCain was right. In this way, he is not like Bush. He doesn't vet anyone properly. His campaign staff, his radical VP and her radical VP husband who abused power and were under investigation while she was being considered, and now poor Joe. And let's not forget the U.S. Council for World Freedom. McCain has gotten himself in a deep hole with no ladder in sight.
I feel sorry for Joe. He presented himself as some sort of victim of Obama's tax plan, only to have his own truth brought to light, along with McCain's selfish need for political gain. McCain ought to retire at this point. Not just from the presidential race, but from politics all together. And Joe should get his license so he is not performing his job illegally. You know, illegal workers. Something McCain touts as his campaign accomplishment.

politisite, I like this story. It's good stuff. Well, according to what I heard this afternoon on CBC news, Joe the Plumber isn't actually a licensed plumber after all (never got his ticket); he just works for a Company that uses plumbers and other handy people. Also, when he was speaking to Obama, he only suggested that in the 'future' he might like to go into business and was wondering if he would end up being taxed a lot more. As it turned out, Obama easily answered that question, when he told him during the debate, that he would actually be exempt if he was a small business owner - he would not be paying the higher tax rate, and would actually receive a business credit so that he could provide basic health insurance to the employees. Today when Joe the Plumber was interviewed he said that he was pleased with the plan that Obama put forward and thought it would be reasonable - which suggests that he is leaning towards Obama!
So, why did McCain even bring up "Joe the Plumber" during the debate without having his strategists check him out before hand? Seems to me that McCain kind of blundered on that score! I wonder what McCain will come up with next to try and bolster his lagging campaign!
at 08:09 on October 17th, 2008
You are right he is not a licened plumber.
Regarding Obama's plan. Obama cannot do anything with out Congress approval. You may as well disregard anything the candidates are promicing as they are powerless to change the tax code on their own. If Obama and McCain were honest, they would say, "with the approval of congress, this is what I will do".
Regarding McCains failing campaign- I wouldn't put a whole lot of credibility on the national polls. In the last 2 elections the democratic nomonee was 10 points above. Now it is true that VP Gore did win the poular vote with a very small margin. Kerry lost by a more significant margin.
Pollsters don't seem to have a good handle on national results. The thing to look at is the electoral map, as that is what determines who becomes the president. It takes 270 electoral votes to get the presidency. Right Now Obama has that wrapped up. Guess what? So did Gore and Kerry at this time 4 and 8 years ago.
I take issue with your belief that McCains campaign is failing as todays tracking polls show a boost from the last debate.
You are right about, "Joe the Plumber" The only reason that McCain used him was to outline that Obama will redistrbute income. Basically punishing sucess in America and giving money to those who are not sucessful.
I give a good protion of my income to charities I choose. I think that it should be that way. The government does a poor job in this matter. Look at what Former Pres Clinton/Bush are doing together. They have raised millions of dollars for disaster releif. Americans are good about giving money to help folks. When the government takes away those funds, Americans are a bit less likely to give to the poor as they are taxed for this service. I think the American people should be given the option on where they want to give. But I am a conservative. Just a quick note here. It is a fact that Joe Biden who beleives in the government taxing folks to give to the poor gave only 3600.00 to charity in the last 10 years. He makes my point, when you think the government is the responcible party, folks give less. I have seen the tax returns of VP Gore and he gave just over 3% of his income to charity. There are many examples. Take republican candidates... much more of their overall income goes to charity. Bush quadulped (with the approval of congress) money going to Africa over President Clinton. (I don't want to say much bad about Clinton here because he spends a great deal of his time now raising money for disaster relief.
McCain should have vetted this guy... maybe should have not used him at all. candidates think we are dumb and give us examples of their policies using little stories. Both parties do this. I got sick of hearing Hillary Clinton tell the same storoes over and over again while she campaigned in the south. Basically I am tired of all the stories these folks tell.
Thanks for your comment. I agree with about half of what you said. Thats pretty good as it appears we come from differant ideology.

Republican Lawyers helped them fight Buchanan in 2000, then again Obama and Kucinich has had their support and Nader is a Natural Law Candidate in some states.
Speaks like a Jay, Barr or Keyes voter.
If he means what he says in the video maybe he left over the eminent domain issue but the TM cult isn't fond of people leaving a door holding type.
