In 2003, Wilson voted to provide federal funds for illegal immigrants’ healthcare. The vote came on the Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement and Modernization Act of 2003, which contained Sec. 1011 authorizing $250,000 annually between 2003 and 2008 for government reimbursements to hospitals who provide treatment for uninsured illegal immigrants. The program has been extended through 2009 and there is currently a bipartisan bill in Congress to make it permanent.

I heard Senator John Campbell (R-Cal.) on Fox News this morning mention that (not verbatim) in the last 10 years, even under President Bush, the Healthcare system could have been fixed. This article comes from a different angle, but confirms the previous administration could have acted then. I thank CameraObscura for providing facts which are proof they did work on a bit (But no MLM has mentioned this yet).

Back when Dr. C. Everett Koop was Surgeon General he said that health care reform was needed then and that if it was not done the health care in America would be a costly catastrophy. So there is no excuse for something not being done even before now. Thanks to the Rethuglicans and their friends in the insurance industry that didn't happen-and now they've got Joe and Joanne Citizen believing their propaganda and helping THEM- instead of realizing health care reform will help them.
