“I am Quinn’s father,” John Edwards said in the statement aired on NBC’s Today Show, referring to Frances Quinn Hunter.

The former presidential candidate had formerly denied paternity, going as far as getting a staff member, Andrew Young, to take responsibility for the child so it would not hurt his presidential bid.

A former Edwards aide, Andrew Young, initially claimed paternity of the child shortly before the 2008 presidential primary contests began. Young is scheduled to release a book on Feb. 2 that details the scandal

The child's mother is 45 year old Rielle Hunter, an actor and film producer.  She became involved with Edwards when she was pitching some campaign videos. The couple had an affair while Edwards wife was recovering from cancer.  The National Enquirer is credited with breaking the story in 2007.

no more partisan hackery

I think it's fair to replace "democrat" with "politician" or "banking executive".
