John Edwards Named in 'Millionare Madam' Investigation
Anna Gristina, a call girl working for the alleged "Millionaire Madam", told investigators she was paid to have sex with former United States Senator John Edwards during his campaign in New York to raise money for his presidential bid.
John Edwards is the first big name to surface in connection to Gristina's alleged prostitution scheme run out of an Upper East Side apartment. His lawyers were contacted by DNAinfo, but did not comment.
According to “On The Inside” sources, John Edwards allegedly hooked up with one of Anna Gristina’s high-end hookers in 2007 when he brought his campaign to New York.
The one-night fling allegedly took place at an Upper East Side hotel suite and was arranged by an aide with help from a New Yorker familiar with Gristina’s prostitution ring, sources said.
The prostitute claiming to have slept with Edwards provided a detailed, first-hand account of their encounter to investigators in the Manhattan District Attorney's office in 2008 after they began probing Gristina’s operation, sources said.
John Edwards' Previous Arrest
Edwards was indicted on federal charges in North Carolina on June 3, 2011 for using nearly $1 million in illegal campaign funds to help cover up an extramarital affair he had while seeking the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination.
He pleaded not guilty to charges including conspiracy, taking illegal campaign contributions and making false statements.
