John Edwards has reportedly proposed to his mistress Rielle Hunter. The 2008 presidential nominee was disgraced when it was reported he had been having an affair on his wife, who was suffering from cancer.

Not only had Edwards proposed, he's bought a $3.5 million dollar beachfront mansion for his new fiance, reports the National Enquirer.

Edwards proposed to Hunter last month, after his divorce from wife Elizabeth had been finalized and after he had claimed paternity of the his and Hunter's two-year-old girl, Francis-Quinn.

"John knew Rielle had been waiting for a proposal for two long years," the Enquirer said it was told by a source. "Since they've gotten involved, she's followed every order he gave her, going on a cross-country cover-up, hiding away during her pregnancy and after giving birth for the sake of his presidential aspirations."

The couple are currently involved in a battle with former Edwards aid Andrew Young, who claims to have a sex tape featuring Edwards and Rielle. Hunter has sued to get the tape back, and a judge set Wednesday as a deadline for Young to hand it over.

Probably not the engagement present they were hoping for.

Update: Former Sen. John Edwards' spokeswoman flatly denied a story in the National Enquirer Wednesday that claimed the 2004 Democratic vice presidential nominee is engaged to Rielle Hunter.

They could have found a better picture of her.  Oh well he made his bed, he can sleep in it.
