John McCain has crossed the line.
John McCain's campaign is crossing a line. We need to beat back not just the McCain campaign, but this entire style of politics, or we will never get a government we deserve in this country.
John McCain approved an ad that was released yesterday that is, quite simply, the most despicable and depraved ad ever run by a Presidential campaign. It may be the most despicable ad ever run by any group about a Presidential candidate, including outside groups. It, quite literally, trashes a vote by Barack Obama to protect young kids from sex offenders and uses the most base fears about our children to smear Barack Obama.
It's a filthy lie wrapped with the most reprehensibly emotional and manipulative covering. No one who respects our democracy or our citizens could ever run such an ad.

Here's the truth: Barack Obama once voted for a law in Illinois, one part of which approved age-appropriate education of children to protect them from sexual predators. The Kansas City Star described the law as giving, "schools the ability to warn young children about inappropriate touching and sexual predators."
John McCain's ad distorts that in the most vile manner, trying to cast it as a radical sex-ed agenda for young kids.
And meanwhile, his campaign is drumming up fake controversy after fake controversy based on outrageous distortions of Barack Obama's words and actions, as well as outright lies. It's despicable.
And if we are ever to meet the challenges of this country, we need this to change.
This is not a time for an email campaign. What we need to do is tell every editorial board in the county that, no matter how honorable his conduct four decades ago, John McCain has shown blatant disrespect for this country with his dishonest campaign, and we demand an end to coverage of these gutter tactics.

We can't wait for anyone else to do this. We can't wait for the reporters and editors to wake up on their own. We must raise our voices and demand a change.
