Tuesady October 9, 2008 a terrible act was committed in our community. John McGraham was burned to death after being set on fire with gasoline on the corner of 3rd Street and Berendo. Mr. McGraham was a well-known and well-loved homeless man who lived on the streets in this neighborhood. The way he was murdered is beyond comprehension. The City of Los Angeles is offering a $75,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for his death. I urge anyone who knows anything about this to step forward and call the LAPD at 1-877-275-5273 Posted by lacityorgcd13

John's clothes were burned off, his body was charred, and witnesses say the tips of his clenched fingers were burned away.

As a kid, John McGraham loved to read comic books, and was a big fan of Star Trek.

Childhood wasn't easy, though; John grew up the second youngest of six children, and family members say his father was an alcoholic who was sometimes abusive to John and his siblings. The more time passed, his family says, the more John seemed like a lost child in a large family.

The Last Hours Of John Robert McGraham On October 9, 2008 at around 9:30 p.m., witnesses say an unknown assailant lit John McGraham on fire while he sat in his usual spot on 3rd Street near Los Angeles' Korea town neighborhood. . Witnesses tell police that someone lit John on fire. He burned to death in the middle of the street where he lived; witnesses rushed to his aide, and the owner of a nearby Mexican restaurant grabbed a fire extinguisher to dampen the blaze. The smell of gasoline loomed in the air, John's clothes were burned off, his body was charred, and witnesses say the tips of his clenched fingers were burned away. John foamed at the mouth as everyone crowded around and waited for an ambulance to arrive. John died in the very same place he considered home. Police are stumped as to who would want to do this to an innocent man. Some witnesses say there was at least one killer.

There is no earthly way to convey how I feel about John's death.  He was my friend I will miss him dearly.  Throughout the 20+ years he spent on the streets, John made thousands of people think, maybe not act but deffinitly think.  Perhaps our time to think has expired, now it's time to act.  The United Way sponsers a walk for the homeless every year.  We have created a team in Honor of John McGraham, "Justice 4 John McGraham." The website is www.homewalkla.org Anyone is welcome to walk with us or maybe you can give just a few dollars in these hard economic times.  Thank you and one more thing, You can't make me believe John McGraham is dead!
