Jonathan William Torres Was Shot and Killed in Mexico on Wednesday

The University of Texas at Brownsville has confirmed that a 19-year-old student named Jonathan William Torres was shot and killed in Matamoros, Mexico.

It is not known what exactly Torres was doing in Mexico or what the circumstances were surrounding his death. Officials have not released any confirmation about whether his death was related to the drug war violence in Mexico, but they have not ruled out any possibility.

The University is currently trying to obtain more information from the U.S. Consulate in Matamoros.
