Joran Van Der Sloot Tells Dutch Newspaper De Telegraaf That He Receives Love Letters and Marriage Proposals While in Prison

Unfortunately the phenomenon is nothing new; notorious murderers, rapists and serial killers have often bragged about being the target of females' affections while they are incarcerated, and now Joran Van Der Sloot appears to be no exception.

He reportedly told Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf that he has been receiving marriage proposals from strangers, love letters, and even an offer to be a father.

"One of them even wants me to get her pregnant," van der Sloot told the paper.

Even though Van Der Sloot is being held in a Peruvian jail under suspicion of brutally murdering 21-year-old Stephany Flores, and a recent psych report labels him as someone who 'does not value the female role', this has not stopped admirers from expressing their feelings for him. He is also the main suspect in the disappearance of Natalee Holloway five years ago, even though he has never been charged for the crime.

Some Women Love Men in Prison

Joran Van Der Sloot is not the first man to attract female attention and he probably will not be the last.

"It's so classic," said Cliff Linedecker, a true-crime writer who wrote the book "Prison Groupies" about women smitten by killers. "The more notorious they are, the more groupies they tend to attract."

Scott Peterson received calls, letters, pornographic photos and marriage proposals, according to a story published in 2005.

According to a 2004 newsreview article, even Ted Bundy attracted a group of females who would sit in the row behind him during his trial and giggle and try to get his attention. Richard Ramirez had one of his jurors fall in love with him during his trial and he even married one of his groupies in 1996.

John Wayne Gacy Jr. had many female fans and even had a 'relationship' with one while he was sitting on death row.

Joran Van Der Sloot will mostly likely continue to receive tokens of love and affection while he awaits his trial for the murder of Stephany Flores.

Sheila Isenberg, the author of the book Women Who Love Men Who Kill, told newsreview in 2004 that women love it when they can control a relationship as well, such as when their man is in prison.

Along with that is the aspect of being completely delusional. They think they’re in love, but it’s more of a thing out of supermarket romance novels, hearkening back to medieval days. There is usually no sex and no real intimacy, just romance, passion and intensity and a hell of a lot of attention.

Inmates For You is a very popular website for example, for people looking to connect with someone who is or was in prison.

The draw for Van Der Sloot however, seems to be his fame and notoriety.

I have told my female friends these facts and the reaction is, they hate my guts and are no longer my friends.

BTW, Hitler had many lovers and Stalin was said to have never been without a mistress.
