The video starts with Quninoes explaining that this is the first time American TV cameras have been inside this prison and and it shows him passing through security. There are a few outside shots of the prison 'carved in to the foothills north of Lima' and it shows a desolate landscape with a few concrete buildings.
Quninoes says that the prison only built for 1,000 now holds almost 2,000, and there are a few shots of the prisoners what are supposedly 'murderers, drug traffickers and terrorists'. As we revealed previously, Miguel Castro Castro prison is a repeat offender prison, unless someone is charged with murder as in the case of Van Der Sloot.
We do get to see the 'most famous prisoner' being escorted from one building to another and Quninoes calls out to him, but his calls are ignored. Van Der Sloot towers over his guards and he is dressed in an orange shirt and khakis.
Next the cameras go inside his prison cell, and viewers can see where he sleeps, his clothes hanging on a hook on the wall and his sink and toilet, which is just a hole in the ground. He is isolated in this small cell and according to an interview with Michael Griffith, an International Legal Defense Counsel, as so many people come in and out of the prison delivering drugs Van Der Sloot has to be kept apart in case someone wants to kill him on an outside contract.
Quninoes then talks to another prisoner, Walter Ramos, who claims there are a lot of 'killers like Van Der Sloot' in the prison, and that if someone commits a crime they are 'one of us' and other prisoners respect that. He says they respect others for whatever crime they committed.
Joran's mother Anita Van Der Sloot is expected to visit her son for the first time on Friday and she is also in Peru to help find him a new attorney after his previous two quit.
20/20 on Friday June 18 will air on ABC at 10/9c and will show more of this footage including an interview with one of Joran Van Der Sloot's ex-girlfriends Melody Granadillo.
