The owner of a Russian opposition website has been killed. Magomed Yevloyev, an independent journalist from Russia's troubled Ingushetia region was fatally shot on sunday afternoon, soon after getting off a plane and being detained by police. Mr Yevloyev was met at the steps of the aircraft as he arrived at Ingushetia airport and taken away by police. As they drove away witnesses described hearing a gunshot and seeing mr Yevloyev being thrown out of the car. The Russian police have apparently said that mr Yevloyev was shot by accident and an investigation is underway. Ingushetia is a poor area that borders Chechnya in the northern caucuses. Ingushetia's leader Zyazikov has been struggling to contain an insurgency and has been criticised for ruling the area with an iron fist. He has been trying to shut down free media, such as mr Yevloyev's website (www.Ingushetiya.ruwebsite). A demonstration has been planned to honour mr Yevloyev's memory and to demand justice.
