I love it when people make assumptions about me just because I am critical about how Barack Obama is carrying out the duties of President of the United States. I'm not a Republican, I am an Independent. That's the first mistake people make with me. As soon as I start criticizing Obama they start in on the "Oh, you're just sore because you're party lost so badly in the last two elections!" How can my party lose? I don't belong to any party. In 2008 I voted for a Republican for President, a Democrat for Congress and a Libertarian for Senate.
Then they start in on the "Where were YOU when BUSH was screwing everything up?" That's simple. I was screaming at him for screwing everything up, and on one MAJOR issue, I was in the minority. That issue was the initial invasion of Iraq. Seventy percent of Americans were all for the invasion, I was not. You see I know this guy by the name of Scott Ritter. He was the Chief U. N. Weapons Inspector in Iraq. I gave Scott a lot more credit that politicians sitting in the cheap seats when it came to whether or not Saddam had WMD's. Scott maintained that not only did Saddam not have them, he didn't have the infrastructure to manufacture, store or deploy them. So when it came time to protest the possibilitiy of an invasion I was right there with my sign. I was spat on, called un-American and even called a traitor.
When the invasion went on and the weapons weren't found I was one of the people not surprised. Now we had a problem though. We had made a terrible mess and it was a mess that we had a responsibility to clean up. So, rather than yell and scream about whether or not we should be there, I accepted that we WERE there and now we had work to do. My support of the rest of the mission was not a show of support for Bush, but a show of support for our troops, the job that they were doing, and our responsibility to protect the Iraqi people from the hornets we had shaken out of their nest.
Bush was also a fiscal train wreck. Medicare Part D, record budgets, the 1st stimulus package were just PART of the problem with him. The man spent money like a drunken sailor but as bad as he was, Obama is much worse. It's like comparing spending money on Hershey bars to spending money on Noka Vintages. Bush's stimulus was $168 Billion, Obama's was $787 Billion. My protest has been proportional. Bush made me angry, Obama has me seeing red.
I'm also consistent in my positions. I thought it was Unconstitutional and politically petty to block Bush's judicial nominations with filibusters. The GOP has decided not to go that route and I applaud that. Had they tried to block Sotamayor with a filibuster I would have been on the phone with my Congressman immediately. I didn't agree with her nomination but elections have consequences and SCOTUS nominees is one of them.
So, in my future writings when I criticize President Obama, don't generalize me, you will lose. Yes, I am a Conservative that leans Libertarian but I am NOT a Republican and I am NOT a Bush shill. I call it as I see it and when Obama does something right, I give him credit for that. It doesn't happen often but I do.
Judge not, lest you look like a fool.
