Republicans v_ Sotomayor: Summary Judgment

Since President Obama first announced Judge Sonia Sotomayor of the Second Circuit Court of Appeals of New York as his nominee, Conservatives have been raising their voices, trumpeting the incorrectness of her articulated positions, with two comments dominating the airways for several days.

However, Jason Linkins of the Huffington Post notes Judge Sotomayor's comments regarding the court of appeals being where policy is made was stated similarly by Justice Scalia in a majority opinion in 2002.

Judge Sotomayor has also been criticized for stating her ethnic background influences her decision making process. A similar admission has been made by Justice Alito.

Justices Scalia and Alito are considered to be conservative judges.

I'm glad you've brought up this issue, as each Justice is invariably, influenced by his background and life experience.  They are humans.

Judge Sotomayor even acknowledged that she had used a poor choice of words.

At the end of the day, it is the elected Republicans' questions and decisions that matter in the Senate hearing.

I believe vetting is warranted, but I would really like to see the smear campaigns stopped that discredit nominees by any administration.  These people are all well rounded and a lot of them self-made.

We should applaud their hard work.  I said it in Pythiians threat and I.ll say it again.  Republicans nominate conservative judges and Democrats do the opposite.  That's a fact of life.

One thing to point out with Judge Sotomayor is that she was initially appointed by George Herbert Walker Bush and elevated by Bill Clinton.

Do we make judgments based on our own life experience, of course we do.
