Jyllands-Posten Targeted over Prophet Mohammed Cartoons

Danish police have arrested five men accused of planning a terrorist attack against Jyllands-Posten, the newspaper that published the Prophet Mohammed cartoons in September 2005.

According to PET (Denmark's Security Intelligence Service), the men were caught with a submachine gun, live ammunition, a silencer, and plastic strips that could be used as handcuffs, as deployed by riot police. The alleged attack plan targeted the Copenhagen office of Jyllands-Posten, which is shared with Politiken.

Newspaper Jyllands-Posten has been the target of several threats and thwarted attack plans since it published the drawings in 2005 which also sparked global protest and the torching of Danish embassies in Muslim countries including Syria. David Coleman Headley, a Chicago resident who this year pleaded guilty to planning the 2008 terror attacks in Mumbai, has also said he prepared an assault on the newspaper.
