Jyoti Singh Pandey was the name of Delhi gang-rape victim
The UK's Mirror contacted the Delhi gang-rape victim's father in a northern Indian village and revealed the name of the girl with the permission of the girl's father. The girl's name was Jyoti Singh Pandey.
The Mirror quoted the girl's father as saying. "My daughter didn’t do anything wrong, she died while protecting herself. I am proud of her. Revealing her name will give courage to other women who have survived these attacks. They will find strength from my daughter."
The 23-year-old Delhi medical student was Badri Pandey's only daughter.
Last week the girl's friend who survived the gruesome incident gave an interview to Zee New's and had revealed that no one helped them when they were thrown out of the bus. Even the Delhi police arrived very late.
Contrary to the boy's claim, the Delhi police said that they came within minutes of receiving a call.
The boy also said that they were not even given anything to cover their body.
The girl was gang raped and brutally assaulted by an iron rod on the night of Dec 16 in a moving bus in Delhi. After 13 days of suffering the girl breathed her last due to multiple organ failure in a hospital at Singapore.
There were widespread protests across India to hang the six accused at the earliest. One of the boys who raped the girl was a juvenile. According to laws in India, A juvenile, less than 18 years old can get a maximum punishment of only three years.
