Karenna Gore Schiff, Al Gore and Tipper Gore's Daughter, Has Split From Husband Andrew Schiff

Just over one week after Al Gore and Tipper Gore announced their separation, their eldest daughter has announced she and her husband of 12 years have officially separated.

Karenna, 36, and Andrew "Drew" Schiff, 44, "have been separated for a couple of months and in marriage counseling," says a friend of the couple

The couple have three children together, Wyatt, 10, Anna, 8, and Oscar, 3 and they live in New York. The same source insisted to PEOPLE that the split was amicable and that the couple are not divorced but trying to make their marriage work through counseling.

The Gore's have not commented on the split.

The Schiffs married in 1997 and had been dating for about nine months before that. Andrew Schiff works for a biotech company, and Karenna Gore Schiff is working on a documentary about leading women in history and volunteering at a legal aid clinic.
