On October 7, 2008, 45-year old Karthik Rajaram was found dead in his California home with a gun in his hands, the apparent victim of a self inflicted gunshot wound. Los Angeles police say Karthik Rajaram is responsible for killing himself and five family members, based on notes left at scene of the murder-suicide in Porter Ranch.

Police were called when his wife did not show up to a neighbor's house to go to work.  They were immediately dispatched to the Rajaram family's Porter Ranch home where officers uncovered the grisly murder-suicide scene.

LAPD Deputy Chief Michel Moore confirms that investigators found two suicide letters and a will.  Moore says that the notes indicated Karthik Rajaram was experiencing extreme financial problems, and in desperation felt killing himself and his family was the only way out.

The dead include his 69-year-old mother-in-law, Indra Ramasesham, his 19-year-old son Krishna Rajaram, 12-year old son Ganesha Rajaram, 7-year old son Arjuna Rajaram, and 39 - year-old wife, Subasri Rajarman.

Karthik Rajaram had a professional profile on the networking site LinkedIn that alluded to his ongoing financial problems shortly before the killings.  He was unemployed and had used the site to professionally network.
