Kennedy Compound: Family, Friends and Crowds Gather

Ted Kennedy's family and friends  gathered at the Kennedy Compound in Hyannisport, Massachusetts. The Kennedy Compound (known on paper as the Hyannis Port Historic District, a six-acre waterfront property on Nantucket Sound) is also drawing crowds as the public makes its way to those quiet streets. Police are closing off the roads leading to the Kennedy Compound, whose flag, like those outside government buildings, is flying at half-mast as the family of Ted Kennedy makes final funeral arrangements for Saturday. Ted Kennedy's body now lies in repose at the JFK Library ahead of Saturday's funeral.

The Kennedy Compound consists of three houses formerly owned by the late Kennedy family patriarch Joseph P. Kennedy, and his sons, Robert F. Kennedy and John F. Kennedy. The Kennedy Compound was added to the National Register of Historic Places on November 28, 1972.

At the U.S. Capitol in Washington, the Senate desk that was used by Kennedy, and earlier by his brother John, is now covered by a black shroud, and a vase of white roses. Outside, flags are at half staff in mourning for Kennedy.

I offer my deep condolences to the American "Royal" Family with the demise of their guardian, Ted Kennedy. Such a great statesman, human rights advocate and respected politician. Americans and the world mourns the passing of another prominent statesman.

Ted Kennedy will be missed very much. He was truly a great senator. My heart goes out to Vicki, Ted Kennedy III, Kara and Patrick and the rest of the extended Kennedy clan.
