Like Kennedys,Kenyattas Have A Knack Of Turning Wheel Of History
That the current President of Kenya is a son of the Founding Father of the Kenyan Nation is a matter of both fact and very interesting history in Kenyan politics.
It so happens that both the father and the son have been crucified by the imperialists for framed charges of leading 'terrorist groups' in Kenya;Kenyatta the father was charged and jailed for allegedly leading the Mau Mau rebellion against British settlers in the former British colony during the fight for independence. Kenyatta the son is now fighting alleged charges of leading a tribal militia group-Mungiki-to counter the ethnic cleansing of Kikuyus from the Rift Valley in the 2007 post electoral violence at a "European Court".
What an unpleasant coincidence for both Kenyattas who are generations apart!
The British when incarceration the elder Kenyatta labelled him as a "murderer and leader into darkness".
The ICC is now prosecuting the young Kenyatta for "crimes against humanity".
If the elder Kenyatta was being prosecuted today for his fight against colonialists in the present day ICC,he would probably be prosecuted for "crimes against humanity".
There seems to be jinx that runs in this family more like the Kennedys in USA who faced almost similar fates in their quest for national leadership.
Eventually, the elder Kenyatta against all odds became the first President of Kenya under the new Republic Constitution. His son has also become the first president under the new Kenyan Constitution fuelled by the 2007 chaos.
It seems that both Kenyattas have ascended to presidency under a cloud of fabricated charges that were meant to bar them from national leadership-and prosecuted by "European Courts".
After Kenya attained its independence, the white settlers who were the chief antagonists in the armed struggle or independence panicked and wanted to leave Kenya enmasse fearing retribution by the new African government.
Elder Kenyatta extended a hand of reconcilliation and assured them of their safety in their continued stay in Kenya after independence. This was quit an unexpected gesture from a man who they had jailed for seven years for framed charges of murder and arson.
In the run to general elections held earlier this year, the western countries cautioned Kenyans against electing an indictee of ICC. Kenyans defied the call of "choices have consequences" and went ahead to elect the young Kenyatta as their President!
The young Kenyatta has gone ahead just like his father before him to extend a hand of friendship to countries that warned Kenyans that his election as the President of Kenya will "have consequences".
Both Kenyattas have demonstrated bravery and fearlessness in their struggle to lead Kenya and a clear focus and determination to deflect fate from their assigned destinies as condemned leaders.
They both seem to have a knack of turning the wheel of history to their favour even when odds are stacked high against them.
An apple never falls far from the apple tree. Kenyans and world in general can only but wait to see how the young Kenyatta will extricate himself from the current persecutions, just as his father before him did,and lead Kenya into a peaceful and prosperous future.
In the matter of coincidences,it is also worthy noting that both the elder Kenyatta and the young Kenyatta have Kalenjins as their Vice/Deputy Presidents. Talk about history repeating itself!
