Kenneth Ireland To Be Acquitted Of Murder After 21 Years In Jail

Kenneth Ireland, a convicted rapist and murderer, is expected to be acquitted of all charges based on the new DNA evidence today. Ireland has spent 21 years in jail for a murder it now has been proven he did not commit. Ireland was charged with felony murder and sexual assault of Barbara Pelkey, and sentenced to 50 years in jail.

Kenneth Ireland, of Wallingford, appeared in New Haven Superior Court on Wednesday. He had been released from prison Aug. 5 when Judge Richard Damiani granted him a new trial.

Ireland was 20 years old when he was sentenced to 50 years in prison for the 1986 rape and murder of Barbara Pelkey, a mother of four.
