Kenneth Glen Mattinson, 61, is a Former BC Coroner Facing Charges of Improperly Examining Two Female Murder Victims

The incidents are alleged to have occurred in February and March 2009 according to the Vancouver Sun, and Mr. Mattinson was arrested, interviewed and then released by the RCMP on Tuesday.

He will be appearing in Surrey Provincial Court on October 21, charged with two counts of offering an indignity to human remains and two counts of breach of trust by a public officer. It is thought that he committed criminal behavior over his 'manipulation' of the bodies.

RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Peter Thiessen told reporters in a press conference on Thursday that the investigation into Mr. Mattinson's behavior began last year when an officer noticed 'what appeared to be a pattern of questionable and possible criminal behavior' relating to the coroner and he informed the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team.

Sgt. Thiessen said:

the families of both women had been contacted and informed of the charges.

"I can't imagine how the families would feel after the murders of their loved ones about unsettling new allegations such as these,"

The names of the female murder victims have not been released, and no further details will be disclosed out of respect for their families.
