Khayri Williams Clark, Nigel Dumas Charges For Mazariego Death
Khayri Williams Clark, Nigel Dumas and a 17-Year-Old Summit Resident Have All Been Charged With Murder For the Beating Death of Abelino Mazariego
The three suspects in the case, Williams-Clark, 18, Dumas, 19, and an unidentified 17-year-old have all had the charges against them upgraded from manslaughter to murder reports NJ.com.
They are suspected of beating and videotaping Salvadoran immigrant Abelino Mazaniego on the night of July 17 in Summit New Jersey. It is thought that Mazaniego had just finished his restaurant shift when he was assaulted in an unprovoked attack by the three young men. He died three days later and now his four children are left without a father.
Williams-Clark, Dumas and the other youth videotaped the incident and distributed it amongst their friends. The fourth person who did the videotaping with the cell phone camera has not been charged at this time. The Associated Press also reports that when Mazariego was taken to hospital, Stephan Randolph, a nurse stole a few hundred dollars from his wallet in the emergency room. he has been charged with third-degree theft.
It is not known why the boys decided to beat up Mazariego or if there were others in the group at the time. No cash was taken from the older man's wallet so it does not look like the boys wanted any money, they just decided to do this for fun. In one scene of the video, one of the boys can be seen holding Mazariego's shirt in front of him while another boy is punching him in the face.
The case has now been referred to the grand jury.
Williams-Clark posted bail of $100,000 Monday. Dumas is being held in the Union County Jail in lieu of $250,000. The 17-year-old remains in custody at the county juvenile detention center.
