HARTFORD, Conn. (Dec. 22) -- Robert Mulligan, the Oscar-nominted man behind the lens who of the classic movie version of 'To Kill a Mockingbird,' has died at the age of 83.
Sandy Mulligan says her husband died early Saturday at home in Lyme, Conn. He had been battling heart disease.
Mulligan was nominated for an Oscar for "Mockingbird," the adaptation of Harper Lee's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel. The 1962 film about racism in a small Southern town starred Gregory Peck.
Mulligan was also known as the director of Reese Witherspoon's first film, "The Man in the Moon."
