This enormous pile of skulls is part of the "Killing Fields" of Cambodia memorial. This is where the bodies of countless victims of the Khmer Rouge genocide were buried outside Phnom Penh. Gruesome wouldn't begins to describe it, you can see bones and clothing still sticking out of the ground. Life inside the torture center Tuol Sleng (where many of these poor individuals came from) was so bad that an electrified fence was installed on the higher levels of the detention center to keep prisoners from trying to commit suicide.
