An Indian military jet, Kiran MK II, crashed in Hyderabad during the Indian Aviation 2010 air show. The Kiran MK II crashed into a densely populated area, killing the two pilots and injured at least four.

The two-seat Kiran MK II was part of a four-plane formation before crashing into a three-story building. The pilots were killed in the crash. One died trying to eject but got entangled with wires, and the other died in the plane crash. Four civilians were injured, two of which were seriously wounded.

According to navy chief Adm Nirmal Verma, the Kiran MK II lost control during the final phase of the air show. "In the final phase, the aircraft appears to have gone out of control. They crashed into a building and the pilots have died," said the navy chief. He added that the co-pilot probably avoided ejection to try to minimize damage on the ground.

Other three airplanes landed safely. At this point the cause of crash is unclear.

The pilots of the crashed Kiran MK II were identified as Commander S K Maurya and Lieutenant Commander Rahul Nair, both based in Goa.

The Kiran MK II aircraft was taking part in a display at India Aviation 2010, the second International Exhibition and Conference on Civil Aviation that began in Hyderabad today.
